CybrSlydr Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 When they talk about the number of bearings in a reel, I always thought the entire contraption was one bearing. I could never figure out how they got 6 of these things in my Penn Battle II and all other reels. When I was looking at pictures of another kind of bearing, it suddenly dawned on me - when it says it has 6 ball bearings, that means it has 6 ball bearings in the entire bushing but just one bushing total, doesn't it? I always thought that what I have pictured above was TWO BALL BEARINGS rather than the number of balls inside being what was counted. lmfao Wow. Yeah, it's one of those days. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 Are you serious!!! Yes your picture is of two bearings. In case you are serious, the way a reel ends up with a large bearing count is they put two bearings in each handle knob. They will support the spool with a bearing on each end and some will use a bearing on each end of the shaft the line winder runs on. The rest get put in different places as needed in the reel to make it run smoother. Quote

I was right to begin with? I'm dead serious. Quote
Super User deep Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 ^^ @fishnkamp fun fact. Shishamos got a 12 bearing handle. How about that? 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 Yes you were correct the first time They are not speaking about how many balls are inside one bearing but rather the count in a reel is how many complete bearing units are located inside the reel. Your picture contained two separate bearings. Quote
CybrSlydr Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Well, this is slightly embarrassing then. lol 3 Quote
