Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I get $7.50 plus parts for single foot guide replacement. Quote
Bulletman20XD Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Very easy and cheap to replace one or more guides. Mudhole has everything you need. Last time I took a rod to a local guy to replace 2 guides and to re-glue the front part of the reel seat cost me $65! I paid $130 for the rod new (Allstar's warranty sucks)! One of the guides came loose the first time I used it. So, I ordered what I needed and learned by trial and error (YouTube videos are very helpful) to do it myself. I am currently in the process of replacing most of my rods with Lews. All that have them know the hook holder is a hole in the bottom of the trigger. Although some may find it handy I hate it, so I install a hook holder on all my Lews rods. They are installed to exact same way you would install a guide. I love to tinker so it's a good way to spend my spare time. 1 Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Been using the hole in the tip of the trigger tip for close to twenty years, Rich Forhan was the first custom builder I seen use it on his Revolver Rods. No extra weight, cheap and fast to drill a 1/8 inch hole in the trigger tip for your hook keeper. Just don't palm the reel, or rod with the hook still in the hole as you probably found out. 1 Quote

Handling the rod is not the issue. Just saying the hole in the trigger doesn't work for me. Having 6-8 rods on the deck of my boat it takes up space and gets hung up more than those with keepers on top of the rod. 1). With a big topwater, crank, etc.. hanging off the bottom of the trigger the rod will not set on the deck of my boat the way I like. 2). Placing a bait on the trigger widens the overall width taking up precious space. 3). Being on the bottom instead of the top of the rod trebles hang up in the carpet. 4). With T-Rigged worms you have to remove the hook from the plastic to insert the tip of the hook instead of just looping the hook bend over the keeper, taking up time to reinsert the hook every time I want it. 1 Quote
