Super User Redlinerobert Posted August 4, 2017 Super User Posted August 4, 2017 I'd stay put and fly private to Brazil a few times a year for peacocks. 1 Quote
david in va Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Well, I am about 25 miles from Bugs Island [ Kerr lake ], 25 miles from Briery lake , 25 miles from Sandy river 20 miles from Lake Connor and a couple miles from Staunton [ Roanoke ] river . and numerous lakes and ponds , So I guess I would just live here , maybe buy a new truck and boat Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted August 4, 2017 Super User Posted August 4, 2017 Every time I go to Northern Idaho the thought crosses my mind. Excellent SM and LM fishing all over with pike, muskie, trout, kokanee, steelhead, and salmon fishing options as well. I'm spoiled in my current location but NI would be amazing when not iced over. BuzzHudson19c Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 First I would get out of this God forsaken hell hole of a state, New York, and head south. Probably eastern Tennessee. Went there last year on a road trip type of vacation and fell in love. There aren't enough people that still value freedom in my home state and it's downward spiral is in full effect. Not to mention the bass only grow for a few months up here. 4 Quote
moguy1973 Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 As much fun as it would be to live in So Florida and have all those places to fish for big Florida strain bass, I think I would miss fishing for smallmouth bass. I think I would have to live on one of the TVA lakes that has both big largemouth and big smallmouth. Pickwick, Wheelier, Guntersville, Kentucky. Any of those would do. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 Theres a reason why many northerners and people from different countries visit South Florida so often and so many of them eventually come down to live down here.South Florida is paradise! 2 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 If I didn't have a crazy relative living in the Orlando area, that is where I would be. Big bass and year-round warm weather. Really can't beat that but I still reserve the right to travel every northern spring (april-may) to my home river, the Susquehanna, to catch the big brown bass. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 If I were in FL, I would forget all about large mouth bass fishing for those exotic fish like peacock bass, snake head, clown night, barra bass and also king mackerel and tarpon. 1 Quote

Orlando has more trophy largemouth bass than South Florida, but it lacks the variety of gamefish South Florida has. Down here we have exotic freshwater fish such peacock bass, bullseye snakehead, etc that absolutely outclass the fighting ability of a largemouth bass. Our saltwater fishing is quite good as well and it has something offer to everyone, from a shore angler fishing for snapper, permit, snook, etc to biggame fishing on a boat for billfish, sharks, tuna, etc. 8 minutes ago, JustJames said: If I were in FL, I would forget all about large mouth bass fishing for those exotic fish like peacock bass, snake head, clown night, barra bass and also king mackerel and tarpon. Been fishing South Florida for well over 2 decades now and I can agree with you. I am very fond of bass fishing and fish often for bass, but bass simply do not compare to many of our freshwater exotics. A 6 pound peacock bass will fight much harder than a 10 pound largemouth bass, and any peacock bass over 8 pounds will fight like a snook going to the mangroves. Absolutely beautiful fish that jumps more than a largemouth and pulls like a saltwater fish for its size! 2 Quote
hawgenvy Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Florida is too hot. I don't even want to go outside until October. I'm seriously considering Antarctica. Okay, maybe California -- on the coast for the mild weather, but not too far from a beautiful lake with giant bass. 2 Quote
wdp Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 If I won the powerball, I'd have my own lake built - exactly how I want it built & where I want it built. 5 Quote
XpressJeff Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 My new Freightliner mobile home will pull the new Ranger and the Land Cruiser! See you soon! Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 6, 2017 Global Moderator Posted August 6, 2017 Buy 100 acres anywhere the boss says and build my own lake the way I want it. Mike 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 Don't need no stinking Powerball I live exactly where I wanna be! 2 hours from Toledo Bend & Rayburn, another 1 1/2 hours I'm on Lake Fork. Then there's Lacassine Wildlife Refuge that produces a couple dozen double digits in the 6 months it's open. 30 minutes south of the house is Calcasieu (Big Lake) Lake with some of the biggest Speckle Trout, Redfish, & Flounder in America. Did I mention 3 hours from Grand Isle? Southwest Louisiana has some of the best duck & goose hunting bar none. ( Robertson boys aint got nothing on us) Dove hunting rivals any where ya wanna name. Bout 4 hours east is Tensas National Wildlife Refuge with some of the biggest Whitetail you'll see. We have 2 world class casinos if ya into that! The local waterways produce shrimp, Blue crabs, & oysters. Of course there's tons of crawfish to wet any appetite. Cajun & Creole cuisine is talked about around the world. But real Cajun cooking is what we eat every night at home. With nearly 4 trillion dollars in new construction the economy is booming! Move? Nah! 4 Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 400 hp Mercury Racing motor on my Ranger Z522, thank you very much... Quote
CTBassin860 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I might buy a houseboat on Kentucky lake to start. Just won powerball so i'll have plenty of money to travel to fish Table Rock,St. Clair and Mille Lacs. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted August 7, 2017 Super User Posted August 7, 2017 I would love to have a remote cabin in Alaska by the Kenai river. It's a dream destination of mine. That would be for the summer, then I would head to Florida or Texas for the winter. 1 Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted August 7, 2017 Super User Posted August 7, 2017 While this would be a tough decision I would have to go to the swamps of eastern NC. This Is home and while there are many destinations that have better bass fishing there's so much wildlife In our swamps I would be a happy man to live right in the middle of it all. I would suspect it might be to buggy, snaky, hot, or too remote for some but for me It's right where I belong and one day will be. 2 Quote
Super User Further North Posted August 7, 2017 Super User Posted August 7, 2017 I can't stand the summers much south of where I am, and the bird hunting sucks (relatively) compared to what I've got here...so I'd stay put and travel a few times a year in the cold months. I've got largemouth, smallmouth, world class trout fishing, pike, musky, walleye, panfish, steelehead, coho, chinook, lake run brown trout...all within a couple hours...and since I wouldn't be working, getting the time to drive to them is a no brainer. Bird hunting, I've got grouse, woodcock and pheasant literally in my back yard and pretty much anywhere I can drive. There bobwhite quail in the area (not a lot, but who needs a lot?). If I got really bored I chase turkeys, ducks, and geese too. I'm within a few short hours of the best pheasant hunting in the world, and closer to the the best grouse hunting... Don't need another woman, the one I have suits me (and I seem to suit her), but we live close to one of the highest tech areas in the country (the fastest computer in the world has been built here several times), so what I need is close enough...and if it's not, there's always Amazon... Super User bigbill Posted August 9, 2017 Super User Posted August 9, 2017 When I first got married 44 years ago I wanted to be a forest ranger or border patrol. I wanted to go to Alaska. now I wish we had wild boar here. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 12, 2017 Super User Posted August 12, 2017 Im content on my small home lake but I might be tempted to move somewhere on another slightly bigger quiet lake thats much further away from a big city. The city and bar scene is not tempting to me atall. There are a thousand lakes like this in Florida. For me, Id stay somewhere in N Florida. For years I wanted a place on Sante fe lake .Its still nice, but more developed now than ever. Still...Cypress trees and docks . aaaah! Quote
