Hey everyone, my name is James.  New to the forum and fishing.  Not 100% new to fishing, but I definitely don't know what I'm doing.

First off, I grew up in Florida, on the water, so I've always been around fishing and used to as a kid off the dock with balls of mashed up bread.   Fast forward a while, and my life has been consumed with jeeps and anything and everything ohv.  My girlfriend always looses the jeep bug in the summerr to fish and said to me, "all u ever do is Jeep so I threw her a bone, and we'll, she created a monster.  I can't catch a darn thing most of the time, but I still enjoy the hell out of it.  Just today and yesterday, fish blowing up everywhere around me, close and as far as I could see.  Still not even a nibble after 1hr and half.  Threw everything I had and nothing. But I'll be back after work to try again.

Now owning a jeep restricts me to bank fishing (can't afford a boat when u jeep) and it seems very discouraging at times since everywhere we go is heavily pressured, but I still can't get enough of it.  At the moment.  I'm sure you guys will be seeing some questions from me posted as all my friends are jeep friends, don't know any anglers to find a mentor.  So to speak.

Anyways, that's enough rambling for now. Look forward to whay this forum has to offer.

Welcome.

We have a Jeep Cherokee and it is a joy to drive.

Been known to hop over some curbs to get to a place, too.

Just post your questions and we will do our best to give you our input.

Hi James Welcome to our group of fishing addicts.  I love the area of the world you live in. My wife and I live near Baltimore MD. but have made many trips into central TN.  We intend to retire somewhere near Dayton, Crossville, Cookeville just not sure yet.

As for boats and Jeeps you know a jeep is a fine tow vehicle for a 17 or 18 foot aluminum bass boat. It could be a simple jon boat or a fancier rig like a Tracker, Lowe, G3, or Alumacraft. There are many good aluminum rigs that would be lightweight and easy to handle behind a short wheelbase Jeep.  That would indeed get you off the bank. ANother option would be a used kayak or canoe.  Just a few things to think about. I have owned 11 jon boats, canoes, aluminum bass boats, and 2 fiberglass rockets. I have caught as many fish out of my aluminum bass boats as either of the two fiberglass rocket ships.  Just an idea to think about.

As for lures and things to try send me a pm and we can talk about it.

If you want to do something really cool I know an awesome guide on Dale Hollow. I use him every time I go stay on the lake. Most of my personal best bass have come from that lake. Bobby Gentry is one of the best teaching guides I have ever used also.

Thanks! Yeah,  a buddy had taken us out a couple times on his john boat.   Each time I think my girlfriend gets closer and closer to being ok With a little john boat.   She really wants to try and find a pontoon boat this winter,  which would pose a problem towing.   My jeep is a big Cherokee with one ton axles build for the the rocks.   Welded rear diff and all.   Id try towing a john boat with it but nothing much bigger.   She had to have some sort of artificial propulsion so she won't go for a kayak, altho I'm thinking more and more about getting one for myself anyway.

I was just talking with my buddy about looking into hiring a guide for a day.  I may have to look your people up.

Thanks for the post,  and I'll send you a pm one day when ours slow at work.   Thats usually when my mind wonders the most.  Lol.

Check out Bobby Gentry's Guide service on Facebook.  Our last trip with him was in April of 2016. During that trip my wife and I were catching 5 to 7 pound smallies and largies with him.  We have hired a lot of guide in our 40 years of fishing together. He is by far the hardest working guide I have ever met.  If you contact him tell him Bob and Linda from MD sent you. He will hook you up!
