So I'm coming from the Mojo Bass spinning rods. Both were in fast , on was a M and one was MH, 7'1 . I'm thinking about upgrading to the Avid series, but I want a few opinion's from someone that has both or has at least fished both . Not used both or regurgitating some info they heard from someone else.

I don't know if the micro guides are worth it , and worth the trade off of me not being able to use leaders. Sure I can still use them but I don't have confidence in me trying the FG knot. I use 20# braid and 10# leaders.

So if you have used both, basically do they feel the same? I'm sure the weight difference is not that big, so to me that's a moot point. I'm wondering about sensitivity...

I use leaders more than 90% of the time and micro guides have caused me zero break offs and likely no measurable difference in casting performance.  I suggest spending just a little time in improving your leader connections, because once they're at least decent, you'll notice virtually no disadvantage to micro guides and all of the advantages.

buy the better tool that you like best (in this case, they're both good, just handle preference, really) and invest the time in the craft to use them better. Knot tieing costs you almost nothing, can be done off the water, and in an hour or two you won't care about knots hitting guides ever again.

They are both built on the same blank so sensitivity will not be any different between the two.  I have 2 Avid X and my father has a bunch of regular Avids.  I've used his and he's used mine.  It comes down to micro vs. regular guides and full grip vs. split grip.  I personally like the X better.

I have used both.  What @RichF said.  I don't like micros as much, and prefer a full rear grip for most applications, so it's Avid for me.  I probably have 20 of them.  If you have any questions on a particular model, just ask.

I own both. The guides don't bother me with either, however, I prefer the reel seat/locking of the standard Avid over the X.

Whats the difference in the seats?

Speaking of that, how tight should one make the reel to rod "nut"? If that makes sense...

Also what is the deal with the split grip? Is it just a fad? Does it help increase sensitivity?

Split grips are supposed to reduce overall weight.

I find that split grips with the right spacing for my hands are far more comfortable...which means more accurate casts, less fatigue, and better bite detection....for me, anyway

Should I still shoot for 7' in length on the Avids? I'll be using it from the bank mostly, maybe a kayak here and there.  Also Should I run the same power as I had in the Mojo's? I have M and MH in fast... Id like to use them for everything, but I think all I'd do would fall under the weights of that... I dont think Id be doing much finesse ( although I dont know what differentiates plastic worm fishing versus finesses fishing? )

Anyway, thanks

7' is a good all around length.  You can cover almost 90% of your fishing with a MH/F and  M/F.

this is another thing that confuses me... The Mojo bass rod ( newer version ) says its the SCIII blank. Thus being the SAME as the Avids... wouldnt that give it the same sensitivity. Maybe a hair more to the micro guided rod, but is it THAT much different?

Guides and hardware CAN make a differnce.  Avids do feel crisper than Mojos.

They aren't the same blank, it's the same Graphite, but not all the other "ingredients" of the blank are the same.

Are you looking at spinning rods?  I didn't like Microguides on Spinning gear, I felt there was a lot more line slapping the blank on the cast (between the stripper guide and the reel).  That was with braid, so maybe a stiffer line (mono/fouro) might not slap as much OR the guide placement on the St. Croix was smarter than on the rod I tried.  But food for thought.

Thanks.

I am using it on spinning gear. I havent made the jump to casting yet... yet. lol.  But I do run 20# braid with leaders, but if I have to ditch the leaders because of the micros, so be it.

I've got Avid X and Avid spinning rods. Both 7' M fast. I can't tell the difference between them and my Premier rods for sensitivity. I use 10lb braid without leaders.

I have the 7' ml/f avid x spinning rod and its my go-to. I do get some line slap with a 1000 size Shimano with braid but it's not bad. Best rod I've owned in its price range.

Can't comment on the regular avid.

A #4 guide will pass an Albright knot joining 50# braid to 15# leader with no problem. Micros will not cause line slap. That's dictated by the reduction train (first 3-4 guides). Properly employed, they'll maximize sensitivity by lightening the tip section.

I only own St Croix rods now, and I have had almost everything they offer. The Avid is extremely light, lifetime warranty, very sensitive, nice handle, and comes in a huge range of applications. To me, it is their best overall line.

The Avid X are nice of course, but the biggest drawback for me, and why I got rid of mine was the micro guides. They actually seemed to slow down my lure more than help it. I think they need to put more guides to help this issue. Make it like a tunnel haha. I don't have that problem with the Avid, which is why I still have some of those.

I'm going to pair it with my president 30 size

I had this exact setup years ago. They look great together. You'll be happy with the Avid.
