glayne0930 Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I am a newer to the swimbait game. I am looking for a rod that is capable of throwing wakebaits such as the ms slammer and spro rat 50 and many more, also want it to be able to handle glidebaits well and topwater such as lunker punker and dirty donkey. Is there a rod that is cheap and capable of handling all three of the categories in one rod or will I need more than one rod? Quote

Super User fishnkamp Posted August 2, 2017 Super User Posted August 2, 2017 I agree with the Dobyns Fury suggestion. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 2, 2017 Super User Posted August 2, 2017 Rats and some surface wake baits have treble hooks and work better with a moderate action, Dirty Donkey is s heavy wake bait and works better with a heavy mod/fast action rod with more power used for single hook underwater swimmers like a Huddleston. If I had to choose 1 lower cost rod go with Dobyns FR 806SB Swimbait rods can be rated fairly close by using lure weights. The lure weight should be near the middle of the rods lure weight recommendation. 3 to 10 oz lure rating would be about 5 oz to 7 oz lures. Heavier lures are more difficult to cast and get good hook sets with as are lures near the minimum weights. With swimbait rods always error toward the heavy side. Tom Quote

Big Swimbait Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Also agree with Dobyns. For a little more $, the iRod line is very good also (around $150). Quote
