Why two trolling motors?

I noticed that quite a few fellas like to use multiple trolling motors on the back of their john boat. Is this simply for power? I understand it would be cheaper to buy 2 30lb thrust than 1 65lb. I ask because I have a 65lb thrust trolling motor for a 10 ft John boat. Would this be adequate to get me around small lakes? I am not worried about going at blistering speeds, just making it through the spring until I can buy a better boat.

your 65 # thrust ill push ur boat. i have a 27 # thrust on my 14 foot jon boat

What you have is just fine for the size lakes you are fishing. If you are talking about the rigs you see in Senko77's post in the trips section then let me explain. Those are electric only tournament boats. The lakes we fish in are from 300 to 1000 acres. The multiple motors are all on full speed for the blast offs and then we conserve our batteries by useing them one at a time to get around. Making sure we have enought power to get back in time at the end of the tourny. We may travel as much as 15 miles during a tournament and that takes allot of power. So to answer your question. We use the multiple motors to increase speed, distance and time on the water.
