Do even the high quality ones have any advantage at all?

Any by advantage disregard ease of use, and price. Advantage mostly as in performance wise.

Woo Davies used to fish them, particularly around docks. I don't understand why though.

I believe that spin casters cast heavier mono line better than spinning reels, without the backlash problems of baitcasters.  Which means they would be ideal for dock skipping when you want to be able to quickly control a fish (heavy line).  For most of us, skipping with a baitcaster is difficult if not impossible.

You can fish all day with a 888 or 808 and never have a birds nest. I expect I caught more fish with them each day with less headache but not as much fun as bait casters ;)

but you cant find good ones anymore Zepco now is junk

"Do spin casters have any advantage over a spinning reel/bait caster?"

Yup, excellent tools for newbies to learn how to cast, that's the only advantage I can think about

A well made spincaster is great for people that may not have the angling skills of a weekend guy.  I keep a couple of old "33s" on hand for guests.  Helps eliminate the frustration, and just let them fish.

My kids and grandkids will use them until they're about 8, then I ween them off.

They come in handy for someone who doesn't know what to do and just want to have fun.
