Few of you guys may remember my conundrum on choosing a rod. I went with the St.Croix Mojo Bass spinning rods in M/F and MH/F.

Anyway, I noticed after fishing them for two months, on both rods, the guides are bad. I was removing the string from on rod and I touched the guide. I heard a click... So then I touched it again, heard it again, and heard it on a few more guides. All you had to do to make it click over and over is just tap it lightly...

If I squeezed the area where the guides are attached to the blank, the click wouldn't happen. Thus leading me to believe it was an attachment issue or how the guides are bonded.

They offer a buy up program. I'm a little hesitant to buy them again. Should I upgrade to the avid or avid-x maybe? Or just give the mojo another try? Suggestions?

I guess no more mono leaders?

I know this has been asked before, but I don't remember. Can leaders damage guides?

I bought an Avid X as a replacement for an Avid that wasn't cutting it for a BFS rig.

Don't sweat the guide sizes, just learn to tie an FG knot and you'll be fine with mono, fluoro or hybrid leaders.

I run 30 lb. Sufix 832 to a Lake Forks Co-poly hybrid line on mine and it's just fine.

...Not sure if the Alberto/Albright knot will work, it's 2x the diameter of the FG.

Thanks. All in all, I'm a little upset that both rods are doing that.... I have had cheaper rods years ago, no issues. I mean many of my friends have BPS rods, ugly sticks, Loomis etc and no issues...

Expected a bit more from them.

strange, man.  I've had quite a few St Croix rods over the years, and never ran into those problems.  Still, St. Croix's customer service is second to none and if there's a problem, they'll resolve it with you favorably.  As for the Avid and Avid X series rods, tons of guys here fish them (myself included) and most consider them the benchmark for what a $200-$250 rod should be.  And they've maintained that level of quality and consistency for decades.  If you end up with Avid/Avid X series rods that you have problems with either A) you rival Charlie Brown in the bad luck category, or B ) they simply don't fit your taste and you'll find lots of guys on here willing to take them off of your hands.

Natty, I have had this on multiple St. Croix rods as well as other brands. If you just touch the guide you hear a click. Its in the epoxy. Almost any guide can do that if just stressed a little or bumped. If it really bothers you I have found a tiny amount of guide epoxy will stop it but honestly I wouldn't worry about it. I have never noticed moisture or thread problems at all. I would keep the rods and enjoy them.

I only had one come loose, and that was an Avid prototype made in 2000.  A couple years ago, they addressed the guide and rebuilt the rear grip and reel seat for $65.  Not bad for a rod that was never supposed to be under warranty.

Yeah they are going to take care of it. But what astounds me is that I talked to two different. People, one via phone and email, and I even sent then a video via email. No one could tell.me if it's normal, or not... So that's why I sent them in. I just never noticed it on any rod before.

As others have said, if you can, upgrade to the Avid/X. I started with Mojos and they were (are?) solid rods. However once I got an Avid X, it was like night and day. HUGE step up in performance, quality, feel, etc.

My Mojos caught fish, but I haven't used them in about a year now.
