Super User scaleface Posted August 1, 2017 Super User Posted August 1, 2017 Yesterday I only had two fish in the first two hours . I figured something out caught seven 15 inch keepers and about thirty total. Spent about 10 hours fishing and only left because it was getting late . 1 Quote

Super User geo g Posted August 1, 2017 Super User Posted August 1, 2017 It all depends on previous experience in the area, and a up to date survey of the conditions. If I like the area and conditions look good I may be there a long time. If I'm new to an area and conditions look typical I will search with a good search bait and then move on. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 1, 2017 Super User Posted August 1, 2017 Good discussion...I'm in the camp that has never known when to quit. But there's something I don't understand above.... 16 hours ago, NiX said: I only stop fishing because I have something else to do. What does this mean? 3 Quote
NiX Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 40 minutes ago, Choporoz said: What does this mean? Meaning I stop fishing because I have to go to work, pick my daughter up from school, doctors appointment, ect. Often I stop at the lake for an hour or 2 just to get my line in the water. I actually get more of those type of days than I do of full fishing days. 2 Quote
kiteman Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 2 hours is about my max, even if i'm catching fish. i also usually start very late in the evening after work and only fish until dusk. 1 Quote

A lot of times on a tough day I will just power through doing the same thing, there's gotta be a better way. A 200 acre lake , fishing from a jon boat with electric motor only . I dont have the luxury of motoring around so I go to the nearest spot then on to the next ... and fish in between spots . 1: fish main lake point - resulted in 2 bass 8 foot deep on worm 2 : fish main lake flat - zero 3 : fish sunken brush pile in creek - zero 4 : fish stumps in creek with a slight channel running through- Bingo several bass caught at six foot on worm and crankbait { between spots 4 and 5 I catch several bass from laydowns with a worm } 5 : Fish sunken brush pile main lake - zero 6 : Fish main lake lay downs - zero So , main lake water was eliminated , and I concentrated fishing cover in the creeks . 4 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted August 2, 2017 Super User Posted August 2, 2017 I'll always stay out there as long as I can. I can usually count on hooking into something regardless of the day, but even if I don't I won't get discouraged. Fishing is just that....fishing, catching is just a bonus. 3 Quote

I fished for about 4 or 5 hours Monday without catching anything, and maybe only getting a couple nibbles. But I was enjoying my solitude outside, and it sure beats sitting on the couch watching TV. 6 Quote
Scarborough817 Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 for me when im at my home lake on the boat an 8 hour day is not uncommon 3 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 2, 2017 Super User Posted August 2, 2017 If I know the body of water, and have caught bass on it before, then I will stick it out and try to figure out a pattern. 1 Quote
boostr Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Would like to fish till I cant see the water anymore, but usually 8hrs or more if my day allows it. 2 Quote

A-Jay In total agreement with both of these. I don't mind not catching fish, but there has to be a chance. Otherwise I'd be perfectly happy fishing in the neighbor's swimming pool... 3 Quote
Chris186 Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I will avg 4-5 hours before packing it in if nothing is happening. if its hot and there is absolutely no wind and nothing is going on, it could be 3 hours before I'm out. Although I have been out for 8 hour days and haven't gotten a sniffle before. Quote
