Or lure weights over or under the recommendation for the rod?

I'd like to use braided line on my ultra light spinning reel, because it doesn't have memory loss (When the line gets all curly and not as tight). Unless I can find fishing line with lower pound rating that doesn't do that.

Also there will be times I may want to use a heavy lure, because this is really the only rod I have. I'd love to get another rod, preferably a bait caster but this is what I have to stick with now.

For line on your reel I'd worry about line diameter more than lb rating.  Right now I have 15lb power pro braid on my ultra light setup that has a diameter comparable to 4 lb mono.  Check out this chart.  http://www.powerpro.com/content/powerpro-north-america/en/home/products/powerpro.html

Regarding the lure rating on the rod the quickest explanation is too light a lure will not allow you to 'load' the rod and casting distance and accuracy will be severely reduced.  Too heavy you risk breaking the rod, and casting distance and accuracy will also be reduced.  I generally find the sweet spot for a rod is in the middle of the ratings.  For example I own a 6'6 Fenwick Aetos spinning rod that is rated 1/8-5/8 but it throws lures the best in the 1/6-1/2 range.

I'm guessing since you have an UL setup your rod is 1/32-1/4?  Most stiffer rods that I own throw 1/2 perfectly, my UL no way.

My rod is 1/32 - 3/16 for weight, the action is fast. it can take 2-6 pound line, or braid.

same here,I use 10 lb. power pro. on my light stuff.has diameter of 2 lb. test. all my light spinning reels have either 10-15 lb. test braid.Diameter is the key when using braid.plus you can put more line on the reel.you also won't have to change it as often.I have 2 reels that have 2 year old braid on them.

I have seen more UL break than any other rod and it from guys trying to throw some it isn't rated for........Also, when they start throwing heavier stuff, they have to lob it and the loss of accuracy is evident.

Within my circle of friends, many have UL'S Are really used.  They often get used passes to kids

Braid on light sinning tackle is for line management and sensitivity. Nothing to worry about at all. Over loading a rod within reason is safe as long as you don't do snap casts. Retrieving heavy lures may feel labored.

First I love the lightest Suffix 832 braid I use it on a special combo I set up to troll for white perch and walleye.  It has a line counter reel and 10 pound 832 which is the same diameter as 4 pound mono.  That stuff plays nice.

As for a second rod go to Wal Mart and look for a Berkley Lightning Shock. The have a 6'6' Medium and some of the stores have them on an unmarked clearance.  Take the rod to the counter for a price check. Members here have purchased them for less than $15 dollars.  Next Go to Dicks Sporting Goods. Purchase anything cheap. Maybe a pack of gum, a single jig, or maybe some fishing line.  Go Home and go online. Answer the customer survey online, at the end you will be able to print a $10 coupon to use on a reel.

They have the Pflueger President on sale right now. It usually sells for $59.99. It is now on sale for $49.99. Using your $10 off coupon it is going to cost you $39.99.  Wait it gets better. Pflueger has a $10 rebate on right now and Dicks is listing that on the website.

I used to use ultralights, mistakenly thinking it was more "sporting" and that they were more sensitive an I'd have a better chance of feeling strikes.

I could not have been more wrong.  Live and learn.

Milos, are you asking about your telescoping UL rod? The weakness inherent with telescoping rod is each guide joint can fail if stressed too hard. Your reel can handle 10 to 20 on test braid, your can't have more than 2 lbs of force. Braid will help to reduce line twist. It's what you have, so use lures and presentation compatible with your rod. I stated earlier that 3/8 oz is max for your outfit based on what you posted.

I don't mind trying to help you but it's time you go out fish and study basic bass behavior and a few presentations like finesse techniques; slip shot, split shot, mojo rig, light weight T-rigs and a 1/4 oz Pop-R.

Thanks for the help. I do realize that I have been spending too much time studying the technical aspects of the rod, reel, line more than going out fishing.

The rods I have is one plussino telescopic rod (tip is broken) my first rod. And the other is the ultralight spinning rod that's a 1 piece.

Sounds like a very good reason to buy a bass rod now. Spinning, medium to mh power fast action, in whatever length you prefer.

I had a Pfleuger Trion that I passed down to my son and bought the Pfleuger President (40) for myself. I absolutely love that reel. Smooth as silk and a great price.

MB508: here in Michigan you will get fined for 1 rod. If 2 or more rods are rigged wrong, they may confiscate.
