Jimmybean Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Just wanted to share a video I put together on my pitbulls first time out pond hopping. Maybe some of y'all can relate to a dog that loves the water too much to stay out of it. 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 28, 2017 Super User Posted July 28, 2017 Welcome aboard! Never take my dogs fishing, so can't really relate Quote
Doelman Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 I can't take my dog fishing. He loves the water and will dive in after my bait. 2 Quote
FordsnFishin Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Can't take mine, he likes to chase your lure. Found this out last year. Took him out, flipped lure, he tried grabbing it, falls in, keys happen to be on boat deck, back paw snags keys, keys flip in water with him, me searching 9ft water for keys after I dragged him back on the boat. 3 Quote
FordsnFishin Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Cute dog, Bailey loves the water as my dog does. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted July 29, 2017 Super User Posted July 29, 2017 Good time with dog man, I wish I can take mine with me. My wife won't allow me to take the dog fishing any more. Why? The last time I took my dog out, she fall down the lake. She was shaking bad becuz It was still cold and I had to end my trip prematurely. Another reason is if patrol see my dog in the lake I might get a ticket for that too. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 29, 2017 Global Moderator Posted July 29, 2017 There's not much my dog loves more than getting to go fishing with me. 3 Quote
Buffdaddy54 Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I've got a 3 year old Aussie Shepard that I won't even consider taking with me. That dog would all over the bank, in the woods, running around, nobody would get anything accomplished. And if I took her out and put her on a longline or some such thing she would whine the whole time. 1 Quote
WDE Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I can't even line my rods without my dogs getting in the middle of it. Forget even trying to take them with me. Quote
baldbassguy33 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I actually have the opposite problem. My dog is very much an inside dog and when I took him with me to the pond over the weekend, he just didn't know what to make of me whipping around a big stick and throwing things in the water. poor little guy sat between my legs the entire time. 2 Quote
Hog Basser Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I used to have a well-trained lab I would take when she was young. She really wanted to chase everything I threw in the water, but resisted because of her training. I fished with her up and down a creek and she chased me on the 4-wheeler every day after work to do it. Every once in a while, I'd let her jump in after one I threw back....she actually caught a few this way (don't worry, she had an incredibly soft mouth, but I didn't expect her to catch them) Quote
Super User gim Posted August 9, 2017 Super User Posted August 9, 2017 I take my dog with pretty regularly when I go fishing. As long as its not super hot, raining, or I'm going to be out there all day, I usually bring her with. At first when she was a pup she was super excited and all about the fish. She'd be up in your grill sniffing the fish and trying to lick it. That lasted about 2 months. Since then, she is super calm and relaxed in the boat. It often appears that she's somewhat "bored" too because she just lays there looking around and could care less about the fish anymore. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 9, 2017 Super User Posted August 9, 2017 My dog goes insane at the littlest thing. No way I could take her. 6 Lbs of neuroses. 8 hours ago, Hog Basser said: I used to have a well-trained lab I would take when she was young. We had to tie the dog and my mom would untie her a few minutes after we got out of sight so she wouldn't swim after us. She would swim for hours. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Nice dog, she looks like a great companion. If you really want to take her fishing with you and don't want her to go in the water while you're fishing, don't throw sticks. Slapping her in the face with a fish is unlikely to make her a better fishing companion too. Quote
