Super User Oregon Native Posted July 25, 2017 Super User Posted July 25, 2017 Had the opportunity to go to Ft. Meyers Florida with my family for a week. Gosh I love watching the storms going across the ocean and the sunsets. Not to mention fishing most every morning and evening off the beach. Didn't catch a ton but did enjoy the floor shows of dolphin jumping and schools of bait fish getting attacked. Saw a young lady and her boyfriend catch a very large tarpon off the beach the last evening and that was amazing. Should I get to go again that's going to be on my list of things to try. Love Florida in the summer....less people. Grand kids loved it too. 3 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 27, 2017 Super User Posted July 27, 2017 Glad you had a good time. Summer is most often trash fish or dink time for surf fishing here, but once and a while you get a decent fish. The only tarpon I ever caught was while surf fishing and using a live finger mullet for bait. But it was only 20-25 pounds. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted July 29, 2017 Super User Posted July 29, 2017 Sounds like you had a good time. Florida overall is a beautiful state that has lots to offer for the outdoorsman. I highly recommend you visit the east coast of South Florida for some peacock bass fishing, these fish are a blast to catch. Also some offshore saltwater fishing if you have enough time during your vacation. 1 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted August 12, 2017 Super User Posted August 12, 2017 It sure would be awesome to catch a tarpon. Btw, what part of Oregon? The Pacific NW is my neck of the woods. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted August 13, 2017 Author Super User Posted August 13, 2017 Have spent most of my time in the Willamette valley area. Was born in Astoria. Have caught about everything Oregon has to offer including some giant sturgeon. Then I started bass fishing and was blessed to do a lot of traveling. So sad of the reg's out there in Oregon concerning bass...but...is what it is I guess. Tight Lines Quote
