Incarcerated Otter Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 How many of you guys bring duplicate rods with you? Meaning same length, power and action? I don't need anything heavier than a medium power and I use a 6'8" medium extra fast JWR for everything. I want a second one so I can have a different bait ready instead of re-tying. I have a MH if I really need it but rarely use it. Seems like a no brainer to just get another JWR but I feel like I should get something different. Does it make sense to get a duplicate ? Quote
Super User Angry John Posted July 24, 2017 Super User Posted July 24, 2017 I carry upto three of the same rod as it fits how I fish the most. 7 foot mhf is my go to in most cases. 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted July 25, 2017 Super User Posted July 25, 2017 For your case, it makes sense to. Your idea definitely has merit in my book. Go for it. I don't have any duplicate rods but I don't mind the retie until I can no longer thread line through a Hook eye, lol. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 25, 2017 Super User Posted July 25, 2017 If it works for you, then duplicate rather than getting different. I would think a little slower action would be better for trebles. Majority of my rods are Fast action and I will carry more than one of each power. I'm lazy. I'd rather grab another rod than retie. Plus I don't get to spend a lot of time on the water so I make the best use of it while out there. That means casting, not retying. 1 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 None. I usually carry a 6'8" MXF spinning, a 7'1" MHF casting and a 7'2" HF casting. (Poppers,Swim Jigs,Pitching) aka top, middle and bottom of the water column. I can also go T-rig,swim jig and frog for the same effect Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 25, 2017 Super User Posted July 25, 2017 On any given trip, I'll have 15 to 20 rigs ready to go, However it is my identical rods that I use the most. I have 2 identical 7'2" Aetos MH/extra fast tip rods that I'll use for soft plastics - jigs - jika rigs - anything that required touch & feel on the bottom. I have three 6'8" Fenwick Aetos MH / fast tip rods that I use for reaction baits - spinner baits, chatter baits, square bills . . . I'm comfortable throwing any reaction bait on these rods. On any given day these 5 rods get most of the work. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted July 25, 2017 Super User Posted July 25, 2017 I use 2 glx NM/F with identical ci4's. Braids to different leaders. My time on the water is precious and don't want to spend it swapping things out. E6X M/Xf...spinning GLX M/F....casting Quote
Incarcerated Otter Posted July 25, 2017 Author Posted July 25, 2017 Excellent thanks for the confirmation. Quote
