What product to clean my reel with?

I've got about a 12 year old  Bass Pro Johnny Morris signature JLM1000-LPHA reel that I've posted a picture of here. It is starting to show a bit of age. Obviously I can't do much about the fading of the fading but it has a few green spots on the metal exterior that I feel would come off with a rag and some sort of product. I don't want something that would take the silver finish off but would remove the signs of age. Any recommendations?

Not knowing if you're dealing with corrosion, or just gunk build up makes it difficult to recommend anything. I'd start with a good scrubbing down with Simple green. That would get rid of any grease and grime. If it's corrosion, take the reel apart and soak the frame and side plates in CLR. Test it out on a spot on the underside to make sure it doesn't harm the finish.

Try WD40 followed by simple green then then the CLR as a last resort

Know nothing about cleaning but I gotta say this, love that ol' school reel.

Boy that thing has been through the ringer! I would try solution of simple green and water. If that is rust and boat rash combined there won't be much that can be done. Sort of hard to see any 'green' discoloring that you mentioned in the photo.

I guess it depends on your definition of ol' school. It's about 15 years old, I didn't use it all that much. Bought it as a combo set from Bass Pro and it is paired up with a 7 foot medium fiberglass Abu Garcia Larry Nixon rod. It's for sale if your interested LOL

I've kind of circled the green spots with red circles. The green is small spots here and there.

Perhaps this may be of some use of other things fail. I am sure it some sort of corrosion...just not sure on what may be the best.

I had a JM  reel just like that if it is the silver anodized finish I think it is.  The reel was built like a tank as they say and I used it for 10 years finally trading it in on the reel/rod trade in BPS has each spring. I am an inside and outside reel maintenance freek and I just kept mine clean with car polish/wax while I had it and it looked like new when I traded it in.  I am not an expert on that finish though and it is possible that it has gone too long to restore the finish.  Try the car polish.
