jtharris3 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Day three is complete. KVD has led all three days. Total weight so far, 66lbs. 7oz. 11 of the final day Top 12 have over 60lbs! KVD...Stiil the man! 3 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 22, 2017 Super User Posted July 22, 2017 Weights were crazy high. Guys needed a 20lb average All 3 Days to crack the top 12. AND they are all SMALLMOUTH ~ ! The final day is chock full of Bass Catching Sledgehammers so we're in for a treat. All I can say is All Hail The Goby ! A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted July 23, 2017 Super User Posted July 23, 2017 Totally misjudged the weight they were gonna pull in. On my fantasy roster the weight I put down for 4 days was less than that. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 23, 2017 Super User Posted July 23, 2017 I remember very early in his career the buzz was how consistently he finished in the money . He hasnt slowed down . Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted July 23, 2017 Super User Posted July 23, 2017 KVD totally smashed it in this one. Posting at 90lbs. - If the Basstrakk weights are right, and they are usually pretty close, the man carried a 4.5 lb average fish all FOUR DAYS ! And they were all smallmouth . . . . . That's crazy . . . . . Weigh-in coming up. Not much drama expected, at least not for 1st place. #gorilladomination A-Jay 2 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted July 23, 2017 Global Moderator Posted July 23, 2017 90lbs of small mouth? KVD just put on a 4 day butt kicking clinic! 2 Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Wow!! 90-3 in smallies! Pretty awesome week for KVD! Great to see! 2 Quote
1simplemann Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I believe that not too long ago some people were saying he was all washed up. The King has returned! He's back and with a vengeance. Is 90lb's of smallmouth the largest 4 day bag ever? 4 Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 90lbs and a 4.5 average for smallmouth is absurd. This is something you'd expect on a Gonzo largemouth lake like Falcon. One or two days is one thing... But 4 days of those kinds of fish is madness. And not just 90lbs of smallmouth, 90lbs of river smallmouth. I could see 90lbs maybe coming from the Great Lakes, but finding fish that big, that consistently in a river fishery is even more impressive. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted July 24, 2017 Super User Posted July 24, 2017 I guessed 75 lbs on my Fantasy Fishing predicition, but 90 pounds is just amazing. Makes you wonder about Brandon Palaniuk. He had 15-15 and was in 72nd on day one. He finished 3rd with 82 pounds event. Had he had a better first day, he would have been right on pace with KVD. Quote
Turtle135 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 90 pounds is awesome! Is July even a good month for that fishery? I've never been there but one would think early prespawn would be even better fishing. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 24, 2017 Super User Posted July 24, 2017 There is a strong summer pattern. Also, that area is NY DEC Region 6, and bass fishing is forbidden until the 3rd Saturday in June. 2 Quote

Now that you mention that I do remember them saying something to that regard on Bass Live, that the fishery was that good because it is protected by regulation (and ice) for much of the year. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 24, 2017 Super User Posted July 24, 2017 KVD was fishing right in front of my friend's house. He's not happy he figured out that spot, lol. 1 Quote

Isn't that interesting - and something that may have been mentioned in the live broadcast, but I guess I missed it. Can't say for sure if that mattered at all - probably didn't hurt the fishing any this week. I wonder how many of the derby contestant knew about that - besides KVD of course. Thanks for sharing J. Super User J Francho Posted July 24, 2017 Super User Posted July 24, 2017 It is the only region in NY that forbids bass fishing. The regional director believes that the bass population is in jeopardy there. Clearly he is misinformed. He's decided to go against the advice that a open catch and immediate release season would be fine. It works for the rest of the state. http://www.dec.ny.gov/about/613.html 2 Quote

That would 've been pretty cool to sit and watch KVD fish your spot and pick it apart fish by fish. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 24, 2017 Super User Posted July 24, 2017 Yes, though he doesn't think brown fish count. He's a real character. His name's Marty Friedman. He's been on Lunkerville as well as Roland Martin's show. He's a darn good stick. 1 Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 Here's a video of KVD talking about using that spy bait this weekend. Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 A little video about all of the baits that he used. One of the 6 pounders... 2 Quote

He is using lures and techniques that he rarely, if ever used before. He adapted. Quote
