My dad had a Jeep Wrangler when he passed away and I've decided to keep it. I love driving the thing for many reasons, not the least of which is it was his. Who on here uses one to carry a kayak? How do you do it? Show me what you got? I've been doing it with my truck and that's always an option. But I'd love to be able to take the Jeep to the beach and carry my kayak.

A Wrangler had about 30 different roof and roll bar options, which do you have? Sport Bar? Family Cage? Sound bar option or no? Soft top, hard top, bimini cover, totally topless? Is the spare on the back? Do you have a trailer hitch? Lift Kit? What kind of 'Yak and are you planning to carry one or two?

When i had my wrangler (s) they all had a Garvin Industries rack on them.  They have the ability to fold back and are sturdy as any rack i have seen since.  Sure it is a little tall but you can manage with the proper technique.  I later graduated to a trailer and couldn't be happier with that decision.....soooooo much easier :)

It's a 2013 Wrangler Sport soft top. It has the bars to the windshield and past the back seat. It's a 2-door. Spare on the back, trailer hitch. I have a 12' Pescador Sport sit on top kayak. I'd prefer not to have to go topless while carrying the kayak because I son't want water and grass and dirt falling on me.

Thanks.

I have a 2010 soft top 2 door. I found a 28"×2"×1.5" piece of plastic at work and just pop it between the sound bar and the bar for the soft top. I use the foam blocks to put my kayak on. It's a sit on top that weighs 50 pounds.

There are a few receiver mount solutions that would suit you pretty well. www.hitchmount-rack.com has a pretty nice one that will cost as much as your canoe did, but if you can weld...

I have an 04 Wrangler... on of my other toys...

The roll bar on it connects to the windshield and has a cross beam across the top just behind the drivers head. I took a 2x4, cut it to rest across on top of the rear roll bars near the rear of the Jeep, covered it with some extra carpet and then on the inside of the roll bar, drilled a couple holes and through the 2x4. I will run a heavy duty hose clamp or sometimes one of those heavy duty zip ties that have a steel in them through the hole and around the roll bar. Throw the kayak on top of it, on ratchet strap secures it to the rear bumper, the other to the front. I can always take it down during the winter when I am not going to be using the kayak.

I would post pics but I am on the road away from home.
