Got out there early Sunday morning.  Started fishing the north side of the large lake with little success, water clarity was clear, but only managed one small fish on a topwater walking bait.  As I moved into the canal, water clarity remained clear and caught two more small fish.  When ever I reached a pump which was pushing water, it was loaded with Gar and Cyclids.  Ended the trip around 11:00 due to storms coming in, and didn't want to take a chance with the wife on board.

Was just going to ask if anyone's been having any luck at Holey Lands or out on the Alley as of late.  Sounds like it's still relatively tough out there.  Thanks for the report.

Spoke with others out there, and they had pretty much the same luck.  I was out on the Alley 2 weeks ago, and with water levels high, the fishing is tough.

In the big lakes most of my luck has been on plastics, fished close to shore, and allowed to free fall off the ledges.  Those big lakes are deep, and many bass hug the rock wall, or up on the shallow flat when in feeding mode.  Early and late the deep rock walls will provide shade, where many hang out between feeds.  The end of the north canal provides lots of vegetation, and cover for some nice fish, during current changes.  There is lots of water out there with over 20 miles of canals, and unlike the Alley no big thick flats for bass to disappear into during high water.  They are pretty much locked into those canals regardless of water level.  The thing I like most about the H/L is the clear, clean water. most of the time  They will position themselves around pumps and flood gates if you can find gentile current and not wide open pumping.  The biggest fish I have caught out there have been during gentile current at flood gates.  Good luck out there.

Backlash, did you hear any shooting going on out there?  I hope they stop the insanity.

Hey Geo,

Thanks for all the insight, you have a wealth of knowledge of that area.  I did not hear any shooting going on, and FWC was very visible.  I'm going to try to hit the Alley this afternoon after work, weather permitting.  Lets see if that produces.

Let us know how you make out, if you get out.  Trying to see if I can get out this weekend.  Thinking either Lox, Alley or Holey Lands.  Good luck!

Have not gone to the Holey lands in months and do not plan on going there for a while, too many idiots shooting bullets with no regard of other people's safety. Hope FWC increases patrol in the Holey Lands area and arrest anyone shooting there.Besides the bass fishing has been spectacular for me in the new areas I have been fishing and I like to relax when I am fishing.

Thanks for the info on the shooting.  I though the patrols would be in full force after the shooting.  I love it out there, its usually so peaceful and quite, when the idiots are not spraying bullets.  Bow season opens Aug 5, out there.

Did you do any good at the Alley?

The Alley was slow.  We left around 9:30pm.  We had 1 nice one around 4-5 lbs and a few small ones.

According to the FWC officer I spoke with, when hunting season starts (even bow season), individuals are allowed to shoot.  But, I have a feeling they are going to be watching very closely and make it difficult for people that are just target shooting out there.

Here's to hoping! :)

I agree, they will be out there keeping a close eye on whats going on.  If they have a bullet from the victim, they will be looking for a matching gun.  Hopefully its a rare round, and they check for matching guns.  Homicide will be on the case along with State Wildlife Officers.  :annoyed1:

Basically they are going try to eliminate the target shooters.  While it's legal to do it, they will make it difficult.  That's my .02
