colemoody03 Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I like to fish for bullhead catfish, but I gut hook alot of them. I have tried 1/0 circle hooks, but I can't seem to hook the fish (I think the hook is too big). So I was wondering if I could take a size 2 or a size 4 bait holder hook and bend it into a circle hook. The bullheads aren't that big, maybe a half pound at best. Quote
bigturtle Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 how are you going to bend the hook into the proper shape and not weaken it? Quote
jr231 Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Are you using a proper set for the circle hook? You just need to reel and keep tension and the hook should set itself perfectly in the corner of the mouth. Trying to set the hook will result in lost fish using circle hooks Quote

I was going to put it into my fly tying vise and bend it with a pair of pliers. 27 minutes ago, Yeajray231 said: Are you using a proper set for the circle hook?
