Rapala Ripstop Jerkbaits

Has anyone seen these yet? I got an email about them today, and preordered a couple of from Tackle Warehouse. They are supposed to be shipped July 24th. They are supposed to stop on a dime and shimmy a little before stopping. I know jerbaits are primarily good in the Spring, but the lake I primarily fish has been tough, so I think I am going to give them a shot as soon as I get them. If anyone else gets any of them let me know here how you like them.

Jerk baits are good year round. I always have one rod on deck ready to throw one.  As the temps get warmer just remember jerk it til she swallows.  I fish them alot more aggressively as the temps get warmer

Didn't Manns make a Pogo Minnow that had a down turned tail?  I wonder if that worked the same as the Rapala Ripstop?

I'm a jerkbait fanatic, I use suspending ones in Spring and Fall and floating models during the summer. When I saw that ripstop I'll admit, it made me a little weak in the knees.

Jerkbaits mimic smaller fish so they will catch fish in any body of water at any time of year. I am not sure I can fit any more floating Minnow baits or jerkbaits in my topwater box, I don't think I have ever fished a pond, lake, or saltwater spot without trying some type of minnow bait. 

 

As much as I love trying new tackle, I am not sure there will ever be a better rapala than the Original balsa minnow & Flat Raps. Thanks for the post, I want to check this out since I have been wondering for years why Rapala would ever discontinue the Max Rap which was similar to the lucky Craft Flash Minnow but was marketed for Saltwater. I am hoping this is the same thing re-marketed and less than $20.

 

I guess Rapala needs something new anyway, it seems every shadow rap, new jerkbait they have come out with in the last few years is always on clearance and they seem to sit on the shelves. Do alot of people fish all the new shadow raps and other new Rapala lures? Just curious since They look fantastic. I only have tried the BX waking Minnow which I thought would be awesome after feeling how heavy they were, detailed, but I sold them off after giving them several good workouts but found the Red Fin was still a much better choice when they wanted a wakebait. Just have to deal with the casting issues and modifications to get one right.

primetime they are actually only around $9.00. I am excited to try them when they get here. I will try to leave a good review after I get to use them some. The lake I fish has been very tough lately. Today is the first time Ive caught any fish in the past three outings. Maybe these will help out some.

The only jerkbaits in my box are shadow raps and xraps. Some of the waters I fish are heavily pressured by jerkbaits and the shadow gives a slightly different action and triggers more bites. I love them. I have a few ripstops pre-ordered.

Kicker the Xraps and especially the Shadow Raps are legit baits. The Shadow Rap is one of the very best jerkbaits out there in my opinion .

I know I'm a little late to respond to this post but I did get out with the RipStops for the first time last Saturday. Here in PA air temp was around 39 and water temp was 56. I fished a very familiar lake and struck out for the first two hours without as much as a small nibble on my regular baits. So I tied on a RipStop and headed down towards the dam and started fishing shoreline rocks and rip-rap......SCORE! The issue I had was that after about 10 minutes the first RipStop I had on wasn't running very well. I took a closer look and the boot tail broke off. Strange since I didn't even hit any rocks with it.....yet. I retied a new bait and the action began. I ended with a very successful morning. Bass were hitting it shallow at the rocks and I even had a few come up from the depths to nail the bait out in the open. So I was very impressed with the action and abilities of the bait; it certainly caught bass. I was disappointed though with the quality. I did email Rapala and received a quick response though along with the claim form. They stated that all of their products have a one year warranty. So I filled out the form and sent it back to them a few days ago. So hopefully they will send me a replacement soon (or a whole case of them, haha). If not for the broken boot tail I would easily give them a 10/10; but because of the issue I'll drop it down to an 8/10.  

 

***UPDATE*** Rapala had a replacement bait delivered to me within 10 days of sending back the broken one; so GREAT customer service from Rapala!
