I preordered the X and SX. I think there is more than just a rebadge to the X, S and SX. They are stressing that these are built like the Gen 2s with Gen 4 technology. The fact Abu admits they missed with the Gen 3 is something I admire. The Gen 2 Revos were the best reels in the market and I am super happy they finally released Gen 4. From what I read all the frames are built to feel like the MGX in your hand, Improved braking and better drag. I use, dare I say, Arden Apex Pro and Elite reels mostly now but will try the new Revos and pray these are as amazing as the Gen 2s were to make me switch back the Abu.

Agreed, I've got two gen 2s a S and SX , 2 gen 3s both STX and a gen 1 S. The 1 and 2s are still running strong even the SX that was seized solid over the winter rusted bearings was able to get freed and still casts and performs flawlessly it's just a little noisy.

My two higher model gen 3s have been giving me fits not engaging after depressing the thumb bar. Easy fix from my understanding but still not as solid as my earlier models. I'm excited to try some of the gen 4s

Here I thought I was the only one using Ardent. It seems like if its not Shimano, Lews or Daiwa on this site its junk. But I for one strictly use Ardent and Abu and never had a problem.

I have 3 Gen3 Premiers that haven't had any problems during a couple of years of use and I throw a lot of spinnerbaits with 4-inch curltail grubs on them. Time will tell, but I don't fish them everyday in tournaments either. I bought an SX recently at Cabela's for $99 and don't have an opinion yet. If the Gen4 reels are better and still the same weight, more power to them.

Nearly all of my spinning reels are Shimano, except for some old Daiwa Silver Series 1600 and 4000 saltwater reels. I even have a few of the original Baitrunner series in use that I bought back when they were $40 to $100. I could easily make the jump to Shimano casting reels if given half a reason. Oh boy, an excuse to go shopping. :)

We as consumers would be better off if these manufacturers would work out the bugs and improve upon models and lay off the generations, gimmicks, redundant models etc.

Amen! It's funny how most Abu fans (myself included) still rave about the Gen2 reels.

When they go to the next generation is that how they fix the bugs?

For as long as I've been paying attention the new generation always looks different, just like vehicles (except they improve the current generation as they go). If they fix the old bugs they often introduce new ones.

Can you tell me if Revo Gen4 has reduced the gear box that was enlarged (too much in my opinion) in Gen3?

Yes I believe so. The Gen 4s are all designed of the MGX and Beast platform and they have smaller gear box and larger handles.

Yes all Manufactures do it. Abu decide to keep the Revo name that everyone knows and love and change the "generation" to differentiate between technology. Shimano does this with letter i.e. I, E, G after their reels. Ardent (Edge to Apex) and Daiwa (Exceler, Tatula, Fuego) change the name of their lines all together when release new technology.
