What do you do about underspooling?

This might be kind of a newbie/ dumb question but what do you guys do when your reel starts to look underspooled after alot of fishing. I have #12 mono on a baitcaster and it's on an all around setup so I do alot of fishing and retie and tie on different lures quite often. So little by little the amount of line on the spool has gone down. Is this something to worry about? Or should I just fish it until the mono is worn out and then replace it?

I respool with fresh line. I don't like low spools, personally. You can leave much of the original line on as a constant backing, then simply add 75-100 yds of fresh line (connect the lines together) whenever you start getting low. That helps keep cost down.

12# mono. . . just strip and respool. mono is cheap

With the low cost of mono go all out and swap the entire spool.  This will keep the handling up and never have you run into a connection knot.  The loss of even one good lure will be more than the re-spool.

The line I have on is Berkley Trilene XL and I had a 300 yd spool of it. My reel takes about 140 yds of #12 mono. I could strip down most of the old line and spool on the rest of the new mono at no cost basically

 

EDIT 

The mono has been on the spool for more than half a year and I've never used line conditioner so the memory is just absurd. Yes I know line conditioner helps, and I'll buy some eventually, but rn respooling is a cheaper option.

I don't necessarily respool completely BUT i am always sure to go well beyond the distance I will ever cast when connecting fresh line.  Mono has enough stretch that unless the knot is crappy, if a fish runs THAT far (unlikely), the knot shouldn't fail.  If you are not good at connecting two lines together, just start at a bare spool.  But yes, if the spool has gotten low, I definitely would add more line.  It will affect your casting distance otherwise.

I would definetely put fresh line on - but if youre not casting down to the end of youre line, and are frugal or cant get  out to a get a fresh spool, you can always wind the line onto another reel, add backing from whatever you may have laying around to build the spool back up some, and put you're line back on. 

 

 

But again if it were me, Id just get new line.

This exactly.  Stock up when it's on sale if you're really that concerned.

 

Somebody always seems to have big game on sale for under $5.00 if you look around for it too.  I bought 4 for 10 just a couple weeks ago
