Does anyone have experience with this reel? I'm a Shimano guy. I have some of the new Chronarch MGL's and I really like them. I have been disappointed with my Metanium MGL. It may have a new home soon. This would be paired with an NRX and is my jig and worm rod. I am concerned that this might not be sturdy enough for 3/8-1/2 ounce jigs. Am I wrong?

The reel will be fine for just about anything except deep cranking and The Rig.

I have one, and although i use it more for finesse aplications (small jerks, topwaters, t-rigs and finesse jigs) that is more due to is excelente performance in casting those small weights. I´ve used it in a few ocasions for heavier aplications (heavier jigs like you plan to use it and also topwater frogs) and it was all fine, did not feel it to be underpowered at all.

Dont let its small size and low weight fool you...  it´s a little powerhouse of a reel... :)

Don't own one but used one 2 weeks ago with 1/2 ounce jigs and it was awesome.

Buy with confidence!

just mounted mine up on a 853c GLX as my primary t rig rod....  they are very versatile reels.

I've thrown smaller 5 arm A-rigs on mine before :P outstanding reel, just because it was designed for finesse doesn't mean it's not tough and versatile

Am considering getting one (Shimano Aldebaran 50 from Japan) for the Gloomis NRX 803C JWR.

Im trying to justify if I should make the switch from Curado 70XG or just leave it alone.

The Monkey is getting on my back lately.

I own both, prefer the Met MGL over the Alde 50 for jigs in that range.  Keep in mind the Alde 50 is a magnesium alloy frame and Ci4+ side plates.  It is a solid reel, but it will feel plasticky.

dont make the switch, keep them both! keep the 70XG on the 803c and get a 852c for the Aldebaran ;)

the aldebaran will turn any light weight, well balanced rod into a feather. excellent caster too.

Rodney - what do you not like about the Met MGL?

The Metanium doesn't seem as smooth as it should be. My other Chronarch MGL's seems smoother.
