AR21angler Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Hi i have a question for you guys would it be possible or practical to add a flourocarbon leader to a reel already spooled with flouro the reason i am asking is because i have a reel spooled with 8 pound flouro but would like to fish some creeks were 6 pounds works a whole lot better could i maybe add 2-3 ft of 6 pound test Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 9, 2017 Super User Posted July 9, 2017 I've been fishing clear rivers and creeks for smallies for a long time and have never found them to be line shy. I use straight braid with no leader, but if it would increase your confidence, go ahead and add a leader. In my opinion, it won't get you any more bites. Quote
AR21angler Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 I have a river i fish were i use 12 pound test but this is a new creek i want to try with heavily pressured fish and clear water ive been told 6 pound test is a better bet the creek is crooked creek in arkansas Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 9, 2017 Super User Posted July 9, 2017 If the fish in a creek are heavily pressured, they will be more wary of someone moving around in the water. Stealth on your part will increase your chances of success more than using different fishing line. 1 Quote
LxVE Bassin Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Whatever gives you more confidence but the difference between 6# and 8# flouro is minimal at best. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 12, 2017 Super User Posted July 12, 2017 Fluorcarbon line gives you the benefit of being almost invisible in water. The difference in diameter between 6 lb and 8 lb fluoro is usually .001. If your fish can see a .001 difference in diameter of the line, than your fish are too smart to fall for the imitation lure you are trying to make them eat. I would try fishing for dumber fish! I regularly fish clear deep lakes for bass using braid and a copoly leader. There is a benefit here since I get the benefit of no stretch, very sensitive braid but have the 4 feet of line closest to my lure less visible. 1 Quote

I think if fish can reason that any fishing line is bad, then they must also be too smart to eat that artificial lure you are using. Quote
bagofdonuts Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 attached 6x floro tippet to floro leaders all the time while trout fishing without issues.(keep in mind that's with very light rods and small hooks) blood knot or double surgeons knot should do the trick. there's a good you tube video of a guide tying a blood knot with a tooth pick. the tooth pick trick works and makes the knot much easier to tie.
