Whats your opinion on Pfuleger Reels?

Pflueger spinning reels -- excellent quality, excellent value

 

Pflueger casting reels -- acceptable, but many comparable reels are as good or better.

I can only speak for the spinning reels. I have 4 now and plan on sticking with that brand for a long time. Use to be a Shimano fan, but no longer. Especially since they kicked up their pricing. Hard to beat the President at about $60.00, in my opinion.

I have four Presidents. Hard to beat 9 bearings for $60. They have had a $10 rebate at least once a year.  I don't have a need to spend more. At the end of the day it's the Indian not the arrow.

I'm a big Pflueger Pfan. I have several Pflueger reels, both casting and spinning, and I love them all. For spinning I have Presidents, Supremes, and a Trion and for casting I use the Supreme XT and President XT. All of them perform excellent. The President XT at only $80 is a sweet reel.

... but the arrow does need to be straight and strong.

Can't go wrong with a President Spinner.  I can afford more money but will never be convinced I'd be getting "better".  As far as baitcasters, ask blubasser.  He seems to love his and has pretty much talked me into buying one when the need for another BC arises

I was a Shimano guy, but their shenanigans the last several years has pushed me away. I sold most all of my newer Shimanos (kept my old B series, 1 CI4 Stradic, 1 E, and 2 70 size I's), and replaced them with Pfluegar. Currently running 5 President spinning reels, 3 Supreme XT spinning reels, 4 President baitcasters, 1 supreme baitcaster, 1 President XT baitcaster, and 7 Supreme XT baitcasters. Not sure exactly what you're wanting to know about them, but I've been really happy with them.

The only problem I heave with Pflueger is the slow gear ratios on all but the highest price models.

The Supreme I have is a 5.4:1, they're only $100 full price, but I only paid $60 for mine. Also available in 6.4.

in my opinion, for a spinning reel, they can't be beat.  i have trions, a president, a supreme and a patriarch and they do not let me down.  i'd tried some other high end spinning reels from daiwa and shimano and sold them all and ended up with all pflueger.  they are buttery smooth and built to last.

I have one fairly new Patriarch and it seems like a really high quality, smooth, quiet, reel.  The only thing that I find that is troublesome is that the dimension from the stem to the spool lip seems larger (more reach to the lip) than Daiwas and Shimanos.  Not a show stopper, but something to be considered, check them out in a store and assure yourself that they fit you OK.

Read through enough posts and you will find many suggesting their spinning reels...especially the President, but not many mentioning the baitcast reels.  That is why I consider Pflueger the Rodney Dangerfield of baitcast reels.  No respect.  My only Pflueger spinning reel is a President XT.  It is a beautiful reel, but the IPT is a bit slower than I like.

 

I owned 2 Trion baitcast reels.  Gave one to a deserving young man who said it was the best reel he ever used.  DVT had cleaned it and upgraded the drag to Carbontex on it.  However, he had very limited experience so take that with a grain of salt.  The other is spooled with 17# mono and mounted on a 6' 10" HF.  The reel is not pretty and not light, but it is a casting machine that I have yet to backlash on this rod.  These are the older Trions that sold for $100 new.

 

My other Pflueger baitcast reels are the older blue colored Patriarch XTs.  Excellent reels.  Nice looking and cast very well.  Quite forgiving.  Two are currently spares.  The other is spooled with 40# braid and used (mostly) for throwing 10" ribbontails on unweighted 3/0 or 5/0 hooks into lily pads and other junk.  One internal brake on and 3 on the external dial.  Probably the lowest brake setting of any of my reels.  Very seldom have an overrun.  The only reels I can run less brakes on are the Daiwa MagForce 3D reels.

 

Smalljaw67 is a person whose advice I have taken several times.  He purchased a Supreme XT baitcast reel and liked it well enough to buy a second.  That is a good enough recommendation for me.

You needn't feel like the Lone Ranger.   I've only let two reels go.  Not because I wanted to, but because I wanted to help a couple deserving young guys out.  I would have almost rather bought them a new reel and had it sent directly to them because once I get a reel in hand I don't like to let it go.

 

I'd say you went all out.  Congratulations again.  The most reels I ever bought at one time was two and that was because I got two for less than the normal price of one.  Well....I did get a package deal on 3 Black Max 1600C reels, but cost was less than any one of the reels you just bought.

 

This can be an addictive sport, but I guess you could say that about any hobby.  I'd love to have a 300mm F4 for my camera, but don't have $2500 laying around anywhere.  Nor is a $10,000-$20,000 acoustic guitar in my near future.

I can't speak to the baitcasters they make but the President spinning series is a true workhorse reel. They can be had for 50 bucks and I have never had an issue with one. I'm usually one to try different things even if I'm satisfied with what I have but I will probably continue to buy President reels until they stop making them.

Interesting... I think i currently have 6 stradics but it seems every year i end up sending one back which they always just replace with a new one but I am looking to try something new. Recently bought a ballistic but not much time on it yet. Do the pfluegers compare to the stradics? I have become pretty picky and need my reels butter smooth or it is done.

The Supreme XT's are plenty smooth for me. I haven't used a Stradic since they changed from the white ones so I don't know how they compare to the newer ones.

I had been fishing a Trion (35) spinning for years and I loved it. I picked up that rod/reel combo at Bass Pro a few years ago. Unfortunately the rod tip broke pulling in a 4+ pounder earlier this year.

 

A few weeks ago my son dropped his rod through the spokes of his bike and sheared his Daiwa. You know what that means? No, not a new reel for him! I passed my Trion down to him and bought a President in the 40 size. I went bigger on this reel because we bank fish and I can get a longer cast with the larger reel.

 

Anyway, I got in a few casts with the President last night just before the lightning started. This reel was smooth as silk. As mush as I liked the Trion, this one is so much better. Best of all it was $59 and there's a $10 rebate I need to send in. Awesome reel at a great price.
