NateCatchesFish Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I'm pretty sure like many of you one of my favorite types of fishing to do in the summer is frog fishing. I'm curious to see what peoples opinions are on clear or transparent frogs and when and where would be the best times to use them. I just thought this could give some pointers to everyone being that I personally don't know when they should be used! Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 8, 2017 Super User Posted July 8, 2017 Name a clear or transparent frog brand and color number. Tom Quote

They make clear walk the dog lures that catch all sorts of fish in clear water conditions. I don't think colors matter much other than dark or light for top water lures since all the fish sees is the underside anyways. Quote

riverbasser Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Don't feel bad tom I didn't know there were any clear frogs either lol 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 8, 2017 Super User Posted July 8, 2017 Live and learn. The crystal frog would be good as a Shad imitaton. I use a pearl white 2 1/2" frog for bass target Shad in brush, the clear frog would be good under the same conditions. Tom Quote
bigturtle Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I use a semi-clear frog on bright days and around weary fish. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 8, 2017 Super User Posted July 8, 2017 Booyah makes a semi-clear frog I believe called : "Old Smokey" which I believe was a color initially developed for Lake Guntersville to imitate shad , mice , baby birds and what ever else a bass may think it is . 1 Quote

I actually just picked up a frog in this color and it is what made me think about this post haha. Yet to catch a fish on it so I was curious when the best times to throw it Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 15, 2017 Super User Posted July 15, 2017 With respect to the 'Ole Smokey color Booyah frog I would think just like your transparent color top water baits where you don't want the bass to get a real good look at the bait perhaps most effective in clear water brighter conditions with calm to slight chop wind conditions . If the sky is darker, water is stained and higher wave action I would probably go with a frog darker / brighter to help bass find it easier . Then again - throw that transparent color frog in any condition and see what works ! Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I suspect it would work well in clearer water, and on sunny days. Quote
primetime Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 In clear water sometimes a clear lure will work fantastic, most people do not throw clear lures like the clear spook, Chug bug etc. I have some Frogs in clear or translucent colors and they work well in the right situations, I don't think bass know they are striking a Frog, they just see something wounded. Spro makes the baitfish patterned colors in their line and those frogs are one of my favorites, plus the design and action is different than most frogs. The one thing that helps is adding a bit of flake or dye to the lure to give it a little bit of color, even just a few spots with a marker or a red spot. The clear chug bug has mylar dressing and I am convinced that is why it works really good, plus Bass can't tell how big the lure is, so you can get away with larger lures and get more strikes with clear lures. If you don't like clear after buying one, you can paint it any color you want, dip it in some dye and you have good looking colors. Quote Quote
Pro Logcatcher Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I never knew there were clear frogs! Whenever I want a shad imitation I use white, but I think clear would work too. Quote
