Two things....you can make them from old spinnerbaits if you want....you just cut and bend the wire up front...can either add the blade then or wait and do it with a good split ring...you can look up the blades and get them at a number of places....haven't had my coffee yet but jans net craft...I believe is where I found some of the blades.  There's another outfit too that sells tons of stuff and I'm drawing a blank right now...oh....Barlows I believe it is....

Next is get a spinnerbait mold of your choice...pour the heads and repeat above.

You have unlimited options in my opinion.  If you do not pour your own lures and are trying to keep your cost down you could use old jigs or spinners.  If you decided to re-use old lures all you would need is split rings, blades, and lock snaps.

I get a majority of my parts from Barlow's and normally use a poison tail or archy head mold.  If I make a poison tail (fixed hook or swing tail) version I will cut the wire and insert the blade.  If making an archy head version I will use a single split ring to attach the blade.  The only con with using split rings is it will eventually bind up on the eyelet causing the lure to lose its intended action.

I make mine using the Do-It sparkie mold and a punch from Harbor Freight.

Hi Munkin, Can you give more detail on exactly what parts you are using? Hooks, which mold, and how do you get the blade into the round end of the hook? also, which punch are you using?

I would like to start making my own "bladed" jigs. Thanks

I am using the Do-It sparkie mold and some 35 degree Gamakatsu hooks from eBay. Once I pour the jigheads I tap open the eye using a  punch from Harbor Freight.  The punch comes in a 3 pack and I use the green colored one of the 3. I made a groove in an old board to use as a jig so the head doesn't get deformed.

A 35 degree hook???? I think with someone just trying this for the first time that they wouldn't want to modify a mold. That said, the sparkie mold with a Mustad 32786 60 degree hook will work fine, the eye opens up but takes a little effort.

No modification necessary the hook just fits the 3/8 and 1/2oz cavities I use. These are the only hooks I have tried and they worked so I am not sure what else works.
