dan94 Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Anyone got a villain 2.0 and use it for flippin n pitching? Thinking of getting one in a 7'6" heavy fast. Reviews ? 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted July 6, 2017 Super User Posted July 6, 2017 I have a 7' MF Villain casting rod and love it. It's feather light and fishes closer to a MH. I had a ML/F spinning Villain but lost it off my kayak. THAT was my favorite spinning rod, period. I own Veritas and Veracity Abus too. Of the many brands I own, they feel the most natural to me. RichF Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I have a 7'3 heavy Gen 1 Villain. It's a nice rod. It's got really good sensitivity but the thing is a BROOMSTICK. I love fishing heavy tackle but the thing is a bit much, even for me. I tried it for froggin first. It has zero tip so accurate casting was impossible. I also just felt bad setting the hook on fish because the thing was so unforgiving. After that, I tried flipping with it. Like I said, it's really sensitive, but the thing is just too much of a face ripper. It hasn't been in my boat for 3 years. My guess is that the medium heavy might be much better. Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I own two villain 2.0 spinning rods, absolutely love them. They have treated me well the last two years on Erie. Crazy sensitive, very light. I also own that Heavy rod you are looking at. It is a monster. Very sensitive, but like rich said, its pretty much for very heavy cover only. Abu's usually run a tad stiffer than the average rod company, and it really shows in this rod. For punching, heavy cover flipping, and heavy duty frogging, it is amazing. For an every day jig rod, I like something a little softer when accuracy matters a bit more. Quote

I have a Gen I casting and spinning rod. Really dislike the 7'6" MHF casting rod. Like the ML spinning rod better, but it is still stiffer than it should be for a ML. However, everything I read about the 2.0....with one exception...has been very positive. One guy complained of guides breaking. As usual the rods still run a bit heavy. Sensitivity is said to be great. Were I like some people, I would never give another Villain a chance after my previous experience with them. However, after reading the TT reviews and comments from others, I really want to try a couple more. The 6'10" ML spinning rod and 7' MF casting rod look good to me. EDIT: Also the handle on the Gen I spinning rod is not very comfortable. Apparently this has been addressed as well. Quote
