dsqui Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 I'm looking for a good weighted hook for the 3.8 fat swing impact. I recently bought some vmc ike approved SB hooks but there is no clearance and alot of fish come un buttoned. They work great on the standard just not the fats. Any recommendations I'm leaning towards owner beasts so I know I have the clearance I'm looking for but was wondering what everyone else might be using. Kinda hard to tell just looking at pics online. Quote
d-camarena Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 You got me there. Vmc's have been great for me. I use the vmx weedless and jig hooks. Quote

Kinda hard to tell just looking at pics online. That's the Keitech type and size I use. I catch alot of fish using this one. I like the 3/8oz size even fishing in 5 fow. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Buckeye_Lures_Lures_Light_Wire_J-Will_Swimbait_Heads_3p/descpage-BLJW.html 1 Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 A 5/0 on a 3.8? I use a 4/0 on a 4.8. Keitech recommends a 2/0 for the 3.8 although a 3/0 works too. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Eagle_Claw_Lazer_Sharp_Weighted_Swimbait_60_Degree_Hook/descpage-ECSWBHK.html that's my go to hook for all SIF's the bend at line tie allows the head to search back and forth. 3 Quote
UPSmallie Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I just use these Berkley weighted EWG Superline hooks texas-rigged usually in the 4/0 size, but 3/0 would work too. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Fusion19_Hooks_Weighted_EWG/descpage-FHWE.html Did buy these ones too. They'd probably work just as well. http://www.basspro.com/Berkley-Fusion19-Weighted-Swimbait-Hooks/product/2251540/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions Quote

It seems to do a lot better job taking care of the bait for multiple fish. I also buy all three sizes of the twist locks and use the largest i can with the bait. 1 Quote
TheMississippiOutdoorsman Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I use 3/0-4/0 for the 3.8, for the 4.3 use 4/0, 4.8 use 5/0 1 Quote
MattC Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 I've been using the VMC 4/0 1/8oz swimbait hook w/screw lock on all my 4.8 Fat Impacts with amazing success recently just tossing them around in ponds and have been really impressed with the VMC hooks, was actually able to grab some different hooks/sizes since they were on sale at my local Field & Stream! I have used the exact same size 4/0 1/8oz hooks as I stated on the 3.8 Impact Fat but it was definitely pushing it for size so I'd feel more comfortable using a 3/0 either weighted or un-weighted Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 I like the Owner Weighted Twistlock or the Moaner Weighted in 4/0 or 5/0. The Moaner hooks have the twist lock spring as well. Quote
primetime Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 DOA Long Shank EWG made by Eagle Claw (not the cheap ones), then buy a pack of pinch weights so you can adjust where the weight is on the shank, and make it any weight you choose. Plus they are not to heavy guage so you get great hooksets from long casts and the Neck fits fatter swimbaits perfectly. The Owner Hooks are my favorite swimbait hooks, just don't use the Mustad Hooks with the adjustable weight and that black screw, they seem like a great concept, but they just rip holes in your bait and they always fall off. Or just nose hook it with a weedless Kahle hook that has some weight on them or crimp a split shot. You get better action that way, Falcon used to make a hook that was for wacky rigs that fits perfect and is weedless. Changes entire action and hook sets are much better imo. Quote
