Looking for a reel for flipping/pitching/ punching. Was thinking maybe one of the concept reels from 13 as they have that 20 some pound drag system and for punching I thought that would be good since it will be in some thick stuff.

i don't know tho do you guys use specific reels for these purposes or does it not really matter?

Well you know my arsenal. I use 3 Daiwa Tatula Type R 8-1 on my frog rod, flipping and punching rods.  They work well for me, but to honest I have had very little time working with the Punching set up since I have been sick for the last year.

I would have no doubt the extra drag on the 13 would be good. I just have never cast one.

The concept reels get great reviews but the drag is no selling point for me, even for punching.  20+ lbs max drag is far more than you’ll ever need IMO; those high numbers must do well for marketing but they offer no real benefit.  If you’re often in situations where you’re putting 20 lbs force through the reel (ie: dead lifting a world record ), then you’re likely to damage the reel, not to mention your rod.

Sounds like you're focusing on the heavy stuff/punching, and for that you don't need anything too fancy in a reel.  I'd look for comfort, durability, high speed, and a clear out sale (discontinued model).  I use a Daiwa Lexa 100 7.2:1 with no complaints (~$50 clear-out).  Then put the savings toward a killer combo for general purpose and lighter-duty t-rig/jig use.

get a reel with strong drag, frame, and a decent speed, atleast 6.3 or better

frame because your using heavy line and putting it under alot of stress.

drag because you need power to get the fish out.

speed to get him out before he wraps you up.

the ***  A seems to have all of those features, but thats just on paper, ive never used a 13 product.

I helps to have a fast reel, 7:1 or faster. It's also nice to have a rig that is lightweight, because punching/pitching all day can be taxing. But you don't need anything too fancy since you're not casting or reeling in a fish from afar.  The fish fighting power when in close quarters comes primarily from the rod and your arms. For me, once I get bit, the reel serves primarily to quickly take up slack.

On my rods I use to flip and pitch with I've got,

Okuma Helios 7.3

Okuma Helios TCS 7.3

Okuma Cerros 7.3

Daiwa Zillion TWS SV 9.1

KastKing Speed Demon 9.3

Shimano Curado 70 IXG 8.1

Shimano Scorpion 70 IHG 7.2

Pfluegar Supreme XT 7.3  (X4)

So basically, pick a reel you like and use it because you can make a lot of different ones work for you.

I use a daiwa sv103 in 7.9:1 ratio or zillion tws sv in 9:1 ratio.
