Luke Taylor Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 I am looking for a great swimbait rod, reel, line, etc, that can last me a good while. Don't have a budget Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 4, 2017 Super User Posted July 4, 2017 Okay I have to ask what size swimbaits? These baits range from plastic swimbaits ( rather lightweight) to the big ones that may weigh over 7 ounces. If you are talking about the standard Huddlestons or things like a Deps Slide Swimmer, than a rod that covers up to 5 ounces should be fine. For that I would consider a Dobyns Champion XP series model 795 SB. They run all the way up to a rod like the DC 908 which handles a ridiculous 8 to 24 ounce bait. When it comes to reels look for one of the Abu round reels or a Shimano round reel. They make some good ones as far as I know. This is a bit specialized technique so I would spend some time on you tube watching videos and make note what reels they are using most often. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2017 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2017 Yeah some folks "larger" swimbait is a 5" Shadalicious, others are talking about a Deps 250 or Baitsmith Mag. Quote
mwh33 Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I use a dobyns 806sb with a Shimano Conquest 300. Quote
