What's the best tackle box for keeping plastics from drying out?

I've always kept opened plastics such as Senkos, Flukes, and Rage Bugs inside their original packaging inside a large airtight plastic tackle box, a Plano Liquid Bait Locker to keep them from drying out. I keep them in a larger box because sometimes I don't seal the original plastic packages well, or in the heat of the moment, don't when I'm fishing. I'm not actually sure I need to do that because I'm not sure they'll dry out. But if they do dry out, I want them in an airtight case.

 

If they do need an airtight tackle box, what is the best one?

If I don't need to put them in an airtight container because they won't dry out, please tell me, so I can save some money. lol. Thanks in advance.

They won't dry out. Only baits you need to worry about drying out are Gulp. That's what those Bait Locker ones are for.

Even if the original plastic bag isn't sealed they won't dry out?

I've been removing plastics from the original bags for 30 years. I still have some of those plastics and they haven't dried out yet. I wouldn't be concerned about it.

No, you won't have any issues. Zman and Gulp are the only 2 major brands that baits need special care.

I don't seal my Z man baits. I keep them in Plano utility boxes but I don't mix them with other plastic baits. They do stick to each other but it hasn't damaged any of them.

Thanks guys, nice to know I don't have to worry about plastics drying out, it will make it a lot easier to store them.

You can store Zman baits in NEW Plano boxes, but if they've been used to store other plastics you're still going to run the risk of them getting damaged or deformed. I leave them in the original pack because that's what it says to do right on the package.

Over a day of fishing I put all my ripped and damaged plastics into one of the cargo pockets on my fishing shorts. When I get back to my car I dump them all out and pick out any that are in good enough conditioned to be repaired. The rest getting dumped in a pile in the back of my hatchback. That pile sits there for weeks, uncovered in the sun, until I get around to trashing them. I have never noticed any drying out of any brand or style.

Once I put them on the Zman head I won't want to tear them off to put them back in the packaging, I'll buy a small flat tackle box for just Zman products. Thanks for the headsup.
