88gta88 Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 So I will start by saying I'm a complete newbie to fishing in general. I've fished before but it's always been with borrowed equipment. My son is getting to the age where he wants to fish so I got him a starter rod/reel and I got an Abu Garcia silvermax spinning reel as a gift and I really have no clue what kind of rod to match it to. Any help would be great 1 Quote

OCdockskipper Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 One of the best ways to get some specific help is to fill out the bio information about where you live and the such. There is always a good chance that a more experienced angler lives close by and could answer questions or give suggestions that really will make a difference for the places you want to fish. 1 Quote

MichaelCopeland Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Hello and welcome aboard! I'm still fairly new to bass fishing myself and don't really know that much about all the different equipment used just yet, but of the three rod and reel combos I have my favorite is my 6'6" MF Lew's Carbon Speed Stick spinning combo. It's a great rod to me and may be a great one for you to pair with your Abu Garcia spinning reel. When I have the extra cash I'm definitely going to be getting me a MHF rod and reel combo if I can find one that way. A MF rod is a good start though. You can fish just about anything on one of those. Quote
