Super User Koz Posted July 2, 2017 Super User Posted July 2, 2017 Have any of you fished Lake George Warren in Hampton, SC? Are there any decent sized bass 2 pounds and up to be found there? It's about an hour drive from here and I was thinking of giving it a try. We're going to rent a Jon boat for the day. The only issue is that you can't rent the boats until 8 am and they have to be returned by 4:45. That's not exactly prime fishing hours, especially on a hot July day. But we'll still have a good time with family and friends. Quote
blackmax135 Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 I actually live about 5 min from the lake. Its is a very tough place but there are big fish in there. 4 years ago i caught a 6&3/4 bass on a zoom worm then last year I broke my PB again with a 8 pounder on a buzz bait and both out of this lake. I have been fishing out there since I was 5 and it has been good and bad. Good luck and enjoy its a beautiful lake Quote

It's great to hear there are some big bass in there. What makes it tough - finding the fish, fishing through all of the submerged trees, or something else? We're probably going to rent a Jon boat but the problem is you can't rent them early in the morning or keep them into the evening. I hate that boat rentals are never during the best fishing hours. So while we're in the boat we'll probably scout out a few places to bank fish early in the evening. Quote
blackmax135 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 What makes it tough is there are really only 3 things to fish out there, and that is Grass or Wood or riprap but there is not much contour to the lake so I feel like the fish are so scattered because they have nothing to follow until they run into something like a stump etc. that makes them hard topredict at least in my mind. Ive been out there and murdered the fish then the next day won't get a bite anyways. In the morning hit the rocks where the spill way is, after it warms up drag a big worm out in the middle of the lake around the logs that you see sticking up and work a buzz bait around the logs as well. There is a pier to fish off of but if there have been people out on it you can bet on not catching anything there. Then you can walk down the rocks. There is also a pond inside of the park that you can try out. On 7/17/2017 at 8:10 AM, Koz said: Thanks for the feedback. It's great to hear there are some big bass in there. Not one bite. We fished just about the entire lake, where you mentioned, and under the piers, docks and overpasses. Went through most of my tackle bag as well. The only thing about having to rent the boat is we can't get it until 8 am, so we miss 2-3 hours of prime time fishing in the morning. It wasn't too hot out today (90 or so) and the Park Ranger said people were catching a lot along shore lately. We fished there and out in the cypress trees out in the middle. The water was calm most of the day, then the wind picked up a little and spent more time jogging the boat than casting (no anchor with the rental). So we packed it in and drove home. I'm not sure if we'll head back up there. Maybe in the fall when everything cools down a little. It was a fun day on the water with my son, but getting skunked left a bad taste. Maybe we should have tried for catfish or crappie/bream instead. Quote
BigRed1977 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 I know this is an old topic but after seeing this I don’t feel so bad about not finding any fish here today. It was around 68 for the high. Low was 45 I think. There was little if any structure. Cool place though. Quote

There are tons of underwater Cypress trees out in the middle and if you traverse the rip rap in one corner there are a bunch of downed trees that they have left there. But it doesn't matter. Either the lake has a ton of fishing pressure or the bass population is way down for some reason. I don't think the fishery is very active there. You're better off finding a random lagoon somewhere on Google maps and fishing that instead. Truthfully, in the SC Lowcountry that's where you usually find the best fishing. Quote

Mostly I was exploring. I used to live in Summerville and fish the Cooper R. Now I live in Walterboro and I was looking for somewhere to take the kayak that I don't have to fight the current. I was surprised at how strong the current was in Lake Warren. The drive to Lake Marion is the same as driving to Lake Warren for me so I'll probably just stick to the usual. I fish the Edisto and Ashepoo a lot. (closest) but I fish the lagoons the most! I always have rods in the truck so on the way home from work I'll stop and get some casts in. Quote

Sorry the lake sucked out on you but give it another try one day soon when the water gets stabile. One day you will go out there and latch on to a big one. Quote
