Mocktopus Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 I must confess that I put a proper reel on my baitcaster this spring. It broke. I'm also broke, so I put the spinning reel back on. I don't feel so bad about that, but this evening I took my daughter fishing. She doesn't know how to operate a baitcasting reel so I gave her my spinning "combo". She caught her first ever lmb about 16" and 1.5lb. She loves fishing and now she is stoked for bass. Total for the trip is 2 lm and 1 rock bass. All on a black jitter bug. 5 Quote

The guy who owned it didn't like it, and decided to strip the first three guides off of it, replace them with spinning guides, and shave off the pistol grip. Hundreds of bass have fallen victim to a drop shot on that rod since he gave it to me 1 Quote

Bank robbery, felonious assault, reckless go-cart driving. The rod thing is not a big deal. I got a friend that hold his spinning reel upside down. Sure it drives me crazy but I've learned to deal with it. As far as your daughter catching her first LM, congrats. You just got a fishing buddy. 3 Quote

Stuck on a few inches of a mag trick worm and apparently bass don't mind one-clawed crayfish in these parts. The important thing is that the young lass had an experience with her dad that she will never forget. Just a casual observation: kids and bass really don't care about exotic, expensive gear. Good on ya! tell that to my girlfriend's 8 year old who wants to fish with my "Professional equipment." He's enthralled by the size of my catfish rods and thinks they're something extraordinary. If it gets him excited about fishing I'll play along but I do hope it takes him a while to find the MSRP on a Cabela's King Kat with a KastKing Sharky Baitfeeder, as in present used condition I'd value every last river combo I have at under $50 each. He's in love with the 3 Shakespeare Tiger combos I just bought his mom for $19.97 each on sale at Walmart, too! Quote

It's about the only thing i can afford to do with my kids out of the house, other than an occasional movie and a restaurant now and then... We also jam out on my instruments. They don't know what they are doing technically, but they are pretty musical already... Keep on fishing man! 1 Quote
