Last year I bought a Quantum PT Smoke SL151Spt reel.I must say I have been very pleased with it,until now.Last week after catching the first two fish(small bass)my Ned rig got snagged on a rock.I gave it the usual pop to get it out,and I got a poop not a pop.I tightened the drag wheel a little and nothing.I would say fully cranked it isn't even one pound of drag.I may be close to the end of the 1 year warranty,so may have to pay to have it fixed.I thought about trying it myself but it looks like too many small parts for these old eyes and fingers.

Anyone with experience dealing with Quantum CS,I would like your input.

Thanks

Yes PLine 15#silk with a co-pol leader.I never had any issues before,it's the only line I have used on it.BTW,I checked, the warranty is over, by 15 days,go figure.Double drag

Thanks

Do you have backing under that braid? If not, there's a 99% chance is just your braid slipping around the spool.

Yes it is backed.I checked that,I can see the spool turn. The line isn't slipping.

I see there are upgrades for these.I'm just wondering if the drag system they put in it is problematic .I have another Quantum BC that has given me 0 problems. It's an Energy I use for frogging and gets a lot more (drag) abuse than this ever got.

Thanks

Hey if you are in Upstate NY you are not too far from Delaware Valley Tackle. He is located in Fort Plain NY. That would be where I would send my reel if I was living up there. He is a board sponsor and offers members a discount on rod and reel work. Lots of members use him for their repairs.

I don't know what I did but I fixed it.I took it apart with the aid of the assembly instructions.I cleaned off the drag discs and put it back together.I was surprised that it wasn't all too difficult. The drag now works like it is supposed to.I know I made an error by not re-greasing the discs as I had no grease.I'll give it a whirl and see how she holds up.

Thanks

My old Revo does that from time to time.  If the drag gets something in it, it slips until I can clean it out.

Well the Smoke is smoked. The drag pooped again and me being me I decide to fix it myself. All went well until a tiny snap ring(that I didn't have to remove)went into orbit. I folded up the paper towels I had the parts on and stuck them back in the box.Time for a new reel.

Thinking of trying a Revo.It seems like they are pretty well made and perform as expected.I have an Energy on my frog rod and just may get another.I like the flip switch.

Can anyone recommend a good all around baitcaster.I get dizzy looking over all there is out there.

You are going to get a lot of recommendations for a Diawa Tatula CT/SV or Fuego CT.  I'm a fan of Diawas.  Slightly over half my reels are Diawas, but there are other good reels out there.  What are you looking to spend?  Some choices no one else will mention are the Pflueger Supreme XT in the $150 range, a Patriarch XT in the $250 range, a Lew's Tournament MB (mine was less than $110 from ebay).  As always Shimano has a couple nice reels.  :D

A favorite reel of mine is the Primmus Xi HS.  Light, smooth, good looking and casts very well.  Seems only a couple of us on here use one.  Liked my first one well enough to pick up two more when an Online store was getting rid of their stock.

Ah, so that's what smacked me in the head this morning when I stepped outside... figured it was a bug or something.
