TheRodFather Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Pretty neat. I wonder if fisherman were saying "some lures are for catching fisherman" at that time too. 3 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted July 1, 2017 Super User Posted July 1, 2017 OMG, I could go on forever with this topic Here's a few, with a backstory. When In-Fisherman magazine first began in 1975, they stated that they would not accept any advertising, because they were not going to be beholden to any advertisers. Of course, that stance lasted about 1 year, as in the May 1976 issue, they had "ads" for 5 different companies, the first time they ever accepted and published them. However, they didn't refer to them as ads/advertisers, but instead, “co-op patrons,” companies who would finance their projects as “Friends of Sportfishing Research.” Here's the 5 ads: 6 Quote

Super User Catt Posted July 1, 2017 Super User Posted July 1, 2017 I had a nice collection of B.A.S.S., In-Fisherman, & Honey Hole Magazines. Then I got divorced... Now I got a nice collection of memories 3 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 1, 2017 Super User Posted July 1, 2017 I use to have every issue of In'Fisherman. Donated them to a school project on structure fishing. I also still have Lindy's "Big Book of Fishing". That was published sometime in early 70's. It featured Al & Ron Lindner, along with Bill Binkleman. I believe it is the first publication depicting the famous "Lindy Rig". I'll have to see if I can find some "old stuff" in the attic! 1 Quote

I wonder if fisherman were saying "some lures are for catching fisherman" at that time too. At a seminar during the early 70s Tom Mann was asked why he made Jelly Worms in so many different colors. Tom answered, to catch fishermen, a bass has yet to put a penny in my pocket. 4 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted July 1, 2017 Super User Posted July 1, 2017 Manns had a lipless crankbait that was wide and no sharp corners , I'm guessing three times wider than a trap . I remember it had good action but I lost it early on . Cant recall catching anything with it . Its at the topof the page of Whitwolfs post . One of the coolest looking baits ever . 1 Quote
