"nope, it's got to be at least 5 lbs" LOL that. I was at the local full service gas station where all the old men sit around and lie when up drives a HS chum with a big bass in his cooler. He showed me and said "guess the weight!". I immediately said about 5 lbs. because my fishing buddy always underestimates fish by a pound and he's usually closer than me. He said "Shoot! That's the biggest bass I've ever caught. I'll weigh it and have it mounted." I saw him again a few weeks later and asked the weight. He frowned and said "5 lbs even-not even close to my PB. I ate it." Quote

Willing to give up a few worms and hooks most young anglers will listen as they catch fish and learn your ways. Money and time are both valuable but its an investment in the care of our sport and will get there attention without causing all the problems. Catch them with honey not a stick Yep. Catxh with honey, if they don't listen save the stick for beating them. Quote

They are loud and ALWAYS have to get close to see if you are catching anything, which of course you aren't because of all the racket made by the stupid jet ski. I hate jet skis even when I'm not fishing, mostly because those who use them lack even the rudiments of common courtesy. When I fished the tide channels around Long Island, Bahamas, it was mostly the lemon sharks. You had to haul a hooked fish in fast or lose it to a shark. Not only the ones I caught in the 2-15 pound range either. This photo shows a wahoo (lying on the dock) that a friend (in the green shirt) hooked, with it's back third lost to a good sized tiger shark before they got it to the boat (lying on the dock). This was a day's catch on a run to the Diana Banks, near Crooked Island. Quote

Doelman Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Summertime afternoon thunderstorms while you're in the middle of the lake in a man powered watercraft. The most annoying thing human wise for me is when you're fighting a big fish and a boat passes right in front of you, right over your fish/line. I've lost a few good fish this way from prop cut offs. Super User NHBull Posted June 30, 2017 Super User Posted June 30, 2017 I am hard to irritate when on the water, but trollers that think every it of the late is theirs, ticks me off a bit Quote
DubyaDee Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Pennsylvanians. I don't know why or how but I always end up fishing near some boat from Pennsylvania with poor fishing etiquette. I could be in the middle of Lake St Clair and a boat from Pennsylvania will pull up, mark a way point, and run off to come back later. This year on the Big Rideau in Ontario, a boat from PA pulled in front of us on a long drift to get our clean water. I must have done something in Pennsylvania years ago to deserve this. 2 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 30, 2017 Super User Posted June 30, 2017 When bank fishing the number one most annoying thing has to be encroachment. Someone sees you catch something and the next thing you know they are standing right next to you. When fishing in a boat I would have to say the thing that annoys me the most is boaters who don't slow down as they pass. The wake they cause is treacherous for small craft. 6 Quote

Here it used to be NC boaters. They were inevitable bass boaters. They would come off plane and fish their way from the mouth of a cove or creek all the way to the back. Then they'd crank up and run full blast from the back of the creek all the way out, ruining that spot for some time for any other fishermen in the creek. We were primarily crappie fishermen back then. You can't convince me fish will ignore a 250 Mercury running full throttle in a narrow cove. Quote

You know, not all of us are like that. Some of us actually have manners. It's mostly the northerners that are so ignorant of things like etiquette. 3 Quote

I don't mind kids at all, only when I am fishing at city park lakes and kids come up to me. They stand so close that I have to ask them to move so I can cast, they only take one step back and I have to ask them to move farther away. Then they take two small steps back and again I have to ask them to move. It has gotten really irritating. A few times I have held my rod out to the side of me or behind me and told them to take 5 steps back from the end of my fishing rod. The other thing that drives me nuts about random kids is that they they try to touch or pick up my other rod that's either laying down beside me or leaning up against a tree. I don't want to be responsible for a kid that grabs a crankbait or an exposed hook on my line and have to deal with angry parents. 5 Quote

I'm not talking about the guys who may make a few casts and leave, but the clowns who show up with chair, tackle box, rods and cooler and just get right in the way of people launching and loading their boats. They are not public fishing piers, they are there for the boaters use. Approaching any stranger and attempting to educate them in proper practice is usually a BAD idea these days. Got to the ramp the other morning and there were smashed beer cans all over the end of the dock, an upended container of chicken livers and tons of other garbage. Makes me rage. Quote

I am always worried a parent is going to get the wrong impression. I forgot another annoying thing when bank fishing is dog walkers. I can't tell you how many of them let their dogs go right up to my tackle bag and sniff. When the dog gets a face full of hooks I don't want to hear it. They also don't pick up their pooches poop. I have to dodge landmines while fishing. 2 Quote
StevesBass Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Went fishing this morning and I was drifting the very southern most bank of the lake. Guy in a pontoon comes motoring up and proceeds to pull a U-Turn 30 yards in front of me right over the weed line I was fishing. He had the whole d**n lake. I just don't understand what the hell goes on inside of people's heads. Quote

I'm with you on helping out kids fishing, I have talked to kids that are fishing and given them tips and some soft plastics and hooks to use. I just don't like the kids that come up to you and get in the way. I want to fish and not talk to these kids or keep telling them to move. 2 Quote

Super User NHBull Posted June 30, 2017 Super User Posted June 30, 2017 On my home lake, I have come to realize that there are fishermen and boat owners that fish. Our tournament anglers are amongst the best behaved and accommodating to the locals. That said, old locals that happen to fish are the most frustrating.....but I don't think it is purposeful Quote

Super User gim Posted June 30, 2017 Super User Posted June 30, 2017 LOL there are some great responses on this thread. Bucket battalion, bucket brigade, doggie land mines, alligators. Those ones made me laugh. The trash, recreational boaters, and bucket toters do anger me out there that's for sure. Probably the most annoying item is when there is a line up at the boat access and some moron is taking forever trying to launch his pontoon and his family is just slowing him down. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted June 30, 2017 Super User Posted June 30, 2017 There's very little that annoys me when i'm actually fishing. It's what takes place at the boat launch parking areas where the stupidity of man shines bright. 3 Quote
