Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 29, 2017 Global Moderator Posted June 29, 2017 Cool photo, I catch moles for a living (among other nuisance wildlife). They way to get them is with harpoon traps and there are way less than you think in your yard. Dozens of tunnels usually means 1-2 moles. Whole yard eat up with tunnels could be 4-6 moles 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 29, 2017 Super User Posted June 29, 2017 LOVE that Rodenator!!!! According to NatGeo, moles are very territorial. When they latch onto a "property", no other moles can venture in. So what it all boils down to is that you have one mole causing all the damage on your lawn. For such a little guy, he sure can damage up a storm! 1 Quote
gilkeybr Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I always wonder how bass handle eating living prey, especially mammals like rats/mice or in this case a mole. That mole has huge claws! If it were alive at the time of the strike, I can only imagine it would do extreme damage to the inside of the bass? When I originally saw this picture with the mole I assumed that the bass was found dead with the mole partially swallowed, but I don't know the whole story. Basically bass are a mystery to me because they eat their prey whole, while it is also alive. Other creatures who may eat their prey whole like snakes, sharks or maybe reptiles in some instances generally have a way of killing them first! Maybe I should have studied biology 2 Quote

Rest his loving soul... To get rid of moles I use those I call them torpedoes. They take a C or D battery and emit a high pitched noise that I guess deters them. No more moles, that battery runs out the moles came back. The battery last a couples years, even in the cold winters of Michigan. Quote
Lures'n'Liberty Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 What was that reality show where the little people had a farm? I seem to remember the eldest male in the family having an ongoing battle with moles. He used to run around in a golf cart with a sawed off 20 ga and blew all kinds of holes in the yard. 1 Quote

The battery last a couples years, even in the cold winters of Michigan. I called an exterminator. She used poison worms and they worked. A year or two later Moles came back so I tried getting poison worms and do it myself. I found poison worms were illegal in NY at the time. I had to have a friend in another state order some and ship them to me. They worked again at a fraction of the cost of the exterminator bill. 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted June 29, 2017 Super User Posted June 29, 2017 It does seem that pond bass react better to critter baits like a mouse, rat, duck, frog, etc. I guess it's shallow and they can see the surface better. Being shallow, a pond can't hold as much forage fish, so they'll take what they can get. at least that's my theory and it does seem to work out that way. When I primarily fished a larger lake, any time I decided to check a bass's stomach contents it would always be threadfin shad only. 1 Quote

Wow!!! Sounds like you've got some healthy soil. I do also like the scissor trap (especially for the deep tunnels). I could use your help in TN! Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 2, 2017 Super User Posted July 2, 2017 So now I must assume that moles are part of the everyday diet so I can "match the hatch" ? match the hatch -----> 1 Quote
Super User tcbass Posted July 3, 2017 Super User Posted July 3, 2017 Saw this thread and then went out yesterday and cast my Rage Toad against a dock about 15 yards away. Reeled it in and attached to it was a gross, dead, bloated, mouse that had apparently been in the water for at least 2 days. Gross!!!! What's the chance of casting in somewhere in a lake and snagging a dead mouse??? Also, my bro and I were fishing in the shallows once, wading through the water when an owl flew over us and dropped something right near my brother. He instinctively picked it up immediately. It was 1/2 a mouse. He quickly dropped it. lol. Ugh.....gross!!! 2 Quote
