Give me suggestions

So this friday, I'm gonna get paid from work and I'm gonna go hit the tackle aisle in my local walmart. I don't have a big budget for tackle, not to mention my local WM isn't exactly stocked well with tackle options. I figured yall could give me some suggestions on what to grab if they have it. I know some things I plan to grab but it's always good to see what other people think could be useful. So let me know what you think I should grab. Also might hit Dicks sporting goods as they have a better selection, but at a higher cost compared to Walmart.

Senkos, Strike King rodent plastics, couple of Strike King Red Eye shad and a top water bait.  Zoom flukes too.  That would be a great start.  From Dick's get some Keitech swimbaits too

Get some Yum Dingers, GYBC Senkos, Zoom Flukes, Johnson Beetle Spins, Booyah Spinnerbaits, Z-Man Chatterbaits. Pick up a wacky rig tool and O rings (that initial investment will save $ down the road) and wide gap and finesse wide gap hooks.

 

Check the prices at Dicks first. I think they are running a buy 1 get one 50% on baits for the 4th of July weekend.

 

That will keep you occupied for a bit.

Here, the Walmart sells Z Man Original ChatterBait. I bought a 3/8 oz. (black/blue) and Berkley Havoc Grass Pig Jr.'s (Black-Blue Silver Fleck) for trailers. If you try these, buckle up! I do great with this combo but any matching color trailer should work. The Grass Pig Jr's were not as expensive as others I've seen recommended for trailers. Buy two if you can swing it just in case one kicks butt and you lose it to something that's not a PIG FISH!

I have plenty of top water already. Definitely gonna get more soft plastics, need a buzzbait and some spinners. Might get the wacky rig tool but I'd have to get the finesse hooks to and round here they ain't easy to find.

Walmart by me carries Eagle Claw Jason Christie wacky rig hooks 15 in a pack for $4 They also carry the Gamakatsu finesse wide gap hooks.

It's been a while since I've been out that way, but if I recall correctly there's a couple of independently owned bait shops around Chambersburg that are quite nice. Chances are pretty good that when you support a small local tackle shop, you'll have input from an actual person or 4 who fish the same places that you do and will sell you exactly what the bass are biting. They will probably have a bigger selection, and remember, it's not as likely that they will stock their shelves with lures that don't catch fish in goofy colors. They will also probably have those hooks and other stuff that ain't easy to find.

 

Now, to go against the support small business rant, I also thought there was a Gander Mountain in Chambersburg that's going out of business and has everything marked way down. It is perfectly acceptable to go in there, buy a bunch of odd colored spinners at 70% off and spray paint 'em. Gloss White Rustoleum appliance epoxy can do wonderful things to the bargain bin clearance spinners that everyone else passed over.

The GM is going out of business and I didn't even think of them. Good to point that out as I had completely forgot they had a fishing section. As per independent tackle shop, I haven't noticed any at all and I've lived here just about my entire life give or take about 5 years. I'll have Google it. If you know any off hand give me a shout. Also if you're around the area then come on by, could always use a fishin buddy.

If you've got a small budget then you could stick with the zoom products and some of the yum products.

I have been using the Zoom Uvibe worms and catching lots of fish on them. Highly recommend them. They can be fished fast or slow.

Flukes are always a good choice.

 

Strike King and Booyah make some good spinnerbaits. I like 1/2oz they are the perfect weight to fish slow or fast.

Had some luck with flukes last night. Went out late evening, first couple cast in the main pond produced a pickerel that I didn't even get to hook into. Was jerking a pearl white fluke through the water, saw a long greenish flash hit my lure, went to set the hook and there was no hook or lure. Bit clean through 20lb braid like a hot knife through melted butter. I was very unhappy with that pickerel.

It's been years since I've been out there fishing, I don't have a clue as to who is still in business out there and I'm 2 hours away. If you want to drive 2 hours, though, Tackle Unlimited on Rt 51 in Jefferson Hills, PA is definitely the spot. They're the nation's oldest Daiwa service center, A Minn Kota service center, Strike King dealer, and the list goes on and on. I'll definitely take you up on the offer should I decide to take a ride out there some time!

Suggestions: buy low, sell high.  OH..., you mean fishing tackle!!!!   My recommendation:  Get a myriad of different types of baits which cover the entire water column from top to bottom and then learn when, where, how to best utilize them.

As of this year I'm specifically targeting LMB as last 2 years was targeting big trout. As for what I want them to do, we'll isn't that obvious? I want them to catch fish. Once place I go, it's topwater heavy as that's what they like to hit most often. Plus it has heavy grass to contend with when using anything under the surface.

Haha . Youre wanting lures to fish in heavy vegetation then . Every lure catches fish .With Heavy vegetation , theres a lot of choices . Weightless worms , top waters ,  Johnson Silver Minnow . Yum Dingers are easy to cast weightless  .Depending onthe type of grass lipless crankbaits are popular . Spinnerbaits retrieved over the top of the weeds...

I would suggest calling a tackle shop in your area and see what and where they're biting before going.   If I had to pick one bait that may work everywhere, it would be a white spinnerbait with silver tandem willowleafs.  To bass it looks like a small school of shad. You can work it many many ways, with a variety of techniques. You can get the cheap ones for $1 at Wally World, and add a crawfish trailer.  Throw it into things you think would be impossible for any lure to go through, and bump it into stuff. If they're deep give it plenty of time to sink and watch your line. The plastics you get for trailers you can use as plastic worms if the bite is slow, so get some worm hooks and weights as well.  Good luck, tight lines.

Lures I like that My walmart sells are Mepps and Panther martin spinners, Little Cleo and Daredevil spoons, Berkley Power baits (10 Inch Worms) and Rebel POP-R's and Hula poppers and Jitterbugs

Don't waste money on an O-ring tool, just use your needle nose pliers, works just as well.  Slide the oring over the end of the pliers, open them up, slide the plastic in, pop the oring off the pliers.  Easy Peasy.

Another reason to shop small business when you can. Really, though, we've all been to Walmart after work on Friday night when the bait shop is closed and you're fishing Saturday morning. Do you know those pegs on the wall that are always empty? That's where the good stuff used to be, much like the shelf space in the case behind the counter in sporting goods where the .22 shells ought to be.
