Bassman27 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 So right now I have been using a 7 foot ghost crankin rod for all of my reaction baits -- (It's verry parabolic) and I've started to notice it doesn't do to well with bigger spinnerbaits and large soft swimbaits. However it does great with crankabaits (except for deep diving) and most chatterbaits. Do any of you have suggestions for a cheap extra rod that would work well for throwing these heavier reaction baits? I was thinking a 7 med heavy fast, but don't know what specific rod would be best. d-camarena Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Any 6'6 to 7'3 mh-f will get the job done. Just a matter of brand preference. Look for lure rating of about 3/8 to 1oz 1 Quote

Do you think it could handle deep diving cranks? Not sure, haven't held one yet. lol As far as the *** *** well, turns out it's a bad word here on bassresource...Or bad numbers with a bad word. You can do a search for the model of rod I mentioned on TW and you'll see what I am talking about Quote

First it has nothing to do with competition. In most cases, it has something to do with the bullet point above - site owners not abiding by the rules of the forum, or over-zealous pro-staffers spamming the forums. Super User fishnkamp Posted June 27, 2017 Super User Posted June 27, 2017 Let me ask what you consider " a cheap extra rod". Lets look at a few options based on price and all are going to be quality rods. Abu Garcia offers the Veritas 2 line. I would think a 7 foot medium heavy should work okay. They are on sale for $79.99. Next I would consider a a Dobyns Fury FR 734C for $110 The Dobyns is a very versatile rod for lots of things. It also fishes like other brand's $200 rods. Finally a rod I use for my larger spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and some larger cranks is a Falcon Bucoo micro series 7 foot medium heavy rod called the Trap Caster. It runs around $129. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Speaking of dobyns, I have a Dobyns Savvy which is the previous model to the sierra. It isn't a crankbait rod or anything, but it does well with the heavier stuff and does really well with spinnerbaits. I have the Savvy 734C. Like Fishnkamp mentioned in the 110 dollar range that fury should be a good choice. They are highly talked about. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 27, 2017 Super User Posted June 27, 2017 I prefer a heavy powered rod for my large chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. If you take a 1/2oz to 3/4oz chatterbait and add on a 3.8-4.3" Keitech SIF trailer, you're easily at an ounce or more. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted June 28, 2017 Super User Posted June 28, 2017 I use a Daiwa Tatula 6'10 MH fast action tip rod with a Tatula SV reel. This setup would do you great for those type of baits, although is probably more than you are looking to spend. I did however get a dud tip on mine as the insert popped out after its first full day of fishing, hopefully I just got a bad tip and the rest of the rod is fine (at least it's a cheap fix). I would think any medium heavy rod around 7' with a fast action tip should serve you well. 1 Quote
