Fish Man Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 ok so with all this talk of scales nd checking them made me curious as to whether mine is accurate, i tried 3 different objects by putting them in a gracery bag and hanging it on my rapala 50 # scale....first up was a 3.5 pound bag of crushed almonds.the scale got it perfect .....then i put in a 6.8 # huge can of chili and got somthing like 7.7 :-?....so then i put in a 5.15 # thing of energy/protein shake of my brothers...i got somthing around 6.8 :-? anyone have any ideas as to why it is duing this,,,is it the scale or somthing i did wrong P.S. everything was zeroed correctly Quote
Guest avid Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Your getting exactly what I was getting. Meaning that all the digital scales I tried gave inconsistant readings. sometimes it was accurate, sometimes it was way off. My PB would be over 10 lbs if I went by the berkely digital I weighed it on. I knew it wasn't a 10 lber. Weighed on a certified boga grip scale from a guy right on the lake and it was barely 7 lbs. I tried the rapala after that and it was better but still not consistant. So I bit the bullet and paid the big bucks for the boga grip. It weighs in quarter pound increments, but is dead on everytime. Also has the advantage of a very strong grip, so when a bass takes a 3 treble hooked lure sideways you can use the boga to hold the fish and safely remove the hooks. Quote
Fish Man Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 one other thing ill add is that were i fish, to catch a fish 2-3 pounds is good and anything over that is big.lately ive been catching fish in the 2.5 pound range by my scale and they all are consistent in size.it seems like when im fishing the numbers seem more accurate but the dead weight is off Quote

That is exactly the experiences that I had. I went through 3 Berkley and 2 Rapala digitals before I broke down and bought the Boga. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 10, 2007 Super User Posted June 10, 2007 I've always preferred spring type scales over digital, I got pick on many times for being Ole School Quote

Are you comparing the fluid ounces on the can to the ounces on the scale? I believe those are 2 different measurements. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 my digital rapala 15# scale is wacky like that too. i really want one of those lock n' weigh type scales. i def. cannot get a boga because i only have 10 dollars and i dont think my parents would pay 100+ dollars for a scale for me. so im lookin at the rapala lock n' weigh which is around 20 dollars. im not sure of the incriments on that scale though....hopefull it is by quarter pounds. Fish Man Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 i overlooked this at he time but ibelieve it was my being stupid, the almonds that weighed dead on were in a plastic bag and it wouldnt add any wieght to the almonds.but with the energy stuff and chili there were in either a plastic or metal container so it would add weight to the net weight listed on the package.i didnt know at the time but the net weight is only the contents inside not the container :-[ Quote
