Many moons ago the walmart in Killeen Texas had a sporting goods manager who actually listened to the local guys and stocked stuff they could sell. Back then Allstar rods were one of the top of the line sellers. Shimano reels, plastics, hard baits. You name it they had it. Now days, as many have mentioned, the selection is crap but do occasionally have some deals.

This was a topic in my last club meeting. It seemed like when Wal-Mart first became the main sponsor of FLW they overhauled their fishing selction and stocked the stuff anglers wanted. I purchased a few Revo SX reel from there. The Wal-Mart by me would even show FLW events on their display TVs. But as time went on the tackle dwindled and is back to next to nothing unless you wanna drown some worms.

I was going to each town that had a Walmart to look for discounted fishing stuff. Every Walmart stocks different fishing stuff. The Best Buy's follow the holidays in January to when they restock for springtime. Just stay looking.

Hank Parker story,,

it was February and I'm watching Hank fish that big lake in NH. He's using a manns baby 1 crankbait in brown craw. It was snowing out but I was destined to buy that lure it worked so well for smallies on the show. I went down to Walmart and bought the whole rack of them. I found this lure was just as hot for me too. I gave one to each family member.

Fishing stuff at Walmarts must not be created equal. The Wally Worlds near me suck for the most part. The only positives of there the last few years have been.

* buying my grandsons different items for trout fishing. The best for them. Do like that selection.

* they had clearance on some Garcia, Berkley and some Sheakspear rods at the end of winter. I bought about a dozen of them and the guys at work sucked them right up. $9.00-$15.00 ea. Ok rods but just not for my liking.

* I've pulled off quite a few Rat-L-Traps and Rattling Spots for $1.00-$2.00. Can never have enough Traps. Great lure.

* I was able to get (2) Falcon Bucoo Rods for $40.00 each. Nice rods.

I buy my live bait and some things at the local tackle but I scrounge deals no matter what or where. Flea markets Ive seen many cabelas, gander mtn, and wally clearance resellers. This year I got braid for 5 flouro for 3 and hank p spin combos for 10 just yesterday.

Walmart here is sort of hit or miss... I've bought a few things there, but they really don't seem to have much of what I look for.  I have the Cabela's headquarters store less than an hour away, so maybe they don't feel that there is a market for fishing gear at Wally World.

I buy things like Trilene XL, no game, power pro, spinnerbaits, pop-rs, the occasional frog. I actually like the ewg super line eagle claw worm hooks. They come 12 in a pack for about $4. American made too. Other items include oil for the truck and boat, fishing hat after mine blows out of the boat, polarized sunglasses (Renegade IKE). I'm fishin on a budget what can I say.
