Walmart tackle?

How many people buy there tackleand lures at Walmart and if so what you usually buy?

I'll usually stroll through looking for clearance stuff. Bought about 2 dozen bags of Strike King Rodents for $2 a bag this winter doing that.

Sometimes my Walmart has some really good deals.  A few years back they had Cordell 1/2 ounce Super Spots on sale for a dollar a piece.  I had the guy behind the counter check the price for me to make sure it was correct.

I check everytime I'm in the store to see if they have any clearance lures. I got probably 20 or 30 different bags of zoom lures in all colors. For 98 cents apiece. And I buy my Gary Yamamoto crankbaits there. They are 2 to 3 dollars cheaper than places like acedemy and gander mountain.

Just bought a spool of Big Game there yesterday .

My local WM is always pretty picked over.  I went to a location far from any bodies of water and in a neighborhood where there normally wouldn't be many fishermen and scored a great deal on chatterbaits.  Both Strike King and Zman.  Filled a plano 3700 with them for $40.

I buy my jitterbugs there. They have the large black with a rattle. That's what my pb came on.

I always check every time that I go to Wally World... I always buy $20.00 or more each time that I go, most are sale items... They make great Christmas gifts for my fishing friends...

I always check for clearance items as well. last fall I got Gami worm hooks that they were clearing out for $1 a pkg

Like Bluebasser86 said their clearance section is fantastic to stock up on baits and tackle at certain times of year.

 

My Walmart actually has Z-Man Shroomz Jigheads and TRDS so I buy them there.

I don't go to walmart specifically to buy baits and lures unless I know they carry something in particular.

 

I do buy my powerpro braid there, so when I go in for line, I check the baits and lures. If I am at Walmart for any reason I always go check wht they have going on. Sometimes they have the baits and colors I throw, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they have stuff on sale. Mine usually has a bunch of YUM brand baits on clearance. With them being cheap to begin with sometimes you can get bags of of YUM stuff dirt cheap.

Also great prices on Zoom products.

I usually scan the fishing aisle if I'm in Walmart to see if anything I need (or might need) is on sale. In fact, yesterday I picked up a Strike King Jig, Berkley Chigger Craws, and Zoom Lizards for a lot cheaper than I would have paid in Dick's or Bass Pro.

Big box discount stores like Walmart operate on inventory that turns over, if the product is on the self too long it is discounted to clear it out regardless of brands. 

I don't shop at Walmart because they eliminate the mom & pop stores that can't compete with the big box stores buying power. So I drive further and pay more so the mom & pop store services and stocks the state of the art type of tackle I like to use.

Wally world has much better prices on GY senkos along with most of the Flukes I use.

 

I live in a small, community and they employ the "unemployable " and retired vets that could never get a job on mainstreet.

I usually don't buy from Wal-Mart but when we are there I will browse through the bargain bin, sometimes they have packs of Yum craws, dingers and creature baits for $1

I try not to shop at Walmart, but I have to go in occasionally.  They're the only place locally that I can find the right filters for my industrial Bunn-o-matic coffee maker.  I'll stop the outdoors dept., but I rarely see anything of interest or use.

Regardless of which big box store I enter, I always head over to check out the fishing tackle.

My Wal Mart doesn't have a big selection, but they have the best prices around on Senkos, Ochos, and Zoom plastics.

although i am purchasing more on line these days, i do shop the walmart tackle section whenever i am in there. i also buy my 2 stroke oil and other stuff for the boat from there. there was a time when we had some local tackle shops around here, and i live 10 minutes from the lake, but those days are pretty much gone. walmart carries my zoom worms, i bought 4 shock rods on sale for what bps charges for one. spools of big game and my renegade polarized bifocals came from there too.

I check Walmart first. If they don't have what I want, I head to Field and Stream. My Walmart carries Booyah pad crashers, Field and Stream doesn't for some reason.

Sounds like competition to me. You value something other than strictly price and your mom and pop fills that role. Free market my friend.

Make sure you compare the number of baits in the soft plastic bags because they have bags that come with less than normal amount so it looks like a great deal when in reality it isn't.

The problem is the mom & pop tackle stores can't compete with big box stores on everyday tackle needs and go out of business losing the value they offered. I use custom hand poured local soft plastics and hand made low production lures like swimbaits for example. Without the mom & pop tackle stores those products dissapear before they can grow into mainstream lures. It is a free market system trying to compete with low cost imported products. Another comparison is brick and motar trying to compete with online, we all end up with mass produced products and lose enovation. All I can do is slow down the process by supporting small business.
