Whipper Plipper Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I was fishing in my pond with a Whopper Plopper yesterday, and one fish hit it, but I fished all the way around the pond, and nothing even pecked it.?. Any reasons? Quote

Tracker22 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Your chasing the "ghost bite". You get a bite on lure A and you think that's what they're going to be biting. Not always true. Its extremely frustrating and time consuming. I've had days when I get a bite on just about everything- spinners, walkers, worms, etc... and yet I can't duplicate a single bite. We were at lake Sam Rayburn or Rayburn as I call it, and we were fishing the bank, and I was using rat ta tat Whopper plopper and got no bites, but my dad was using phantom shad Whopper plopper, and he MISSED 2 fish. I tend to stay with light colors on bright days and dark colors on dark days. But some days you just gotta try something different. I try to use my "vast knowledge" of conditions but it doesn't always work?. Quote

I believe that probably had more to do with timing , location of the cast, and retrieval more so than color... Have you ever had a color of senkos that didn't catch fish ?? Me either... 3 Quote

If I am tell me? So he finished his casts, then you cast to his spots. When I fish behind someone, I usually don't choose the same bait as someone else. All else being equal, if someone picks a spot apart, they are getting the most active fish, leaving you to clean up. That's not to say that you still can't catch fish, but if someone is picking an area apart with a 1/2 oz jig, I'd be throwing a finesse jig, senko, or something a bit different behind them, possible enticing the more finicky bass that the guy up front didn't catch. 1 Quote

If I am tell me I never retrieve the same way more then three times, always try to be different in your retrieves so the bass don't get use to the same presentation. And if they still don't bite try switching up the color and see if you can tell what the bass are feeding on if possible and match that. Or even go out and try a new bait. You can't always stick with what you think will work best, sometimes I'll go through my whole tackle. Don't be afraid to switch up you'll be surprised Quote

Try a mojo rig caught all my bass on them no issue adds extra movement and is amazing when you can get the senko to bounce off any rocks or structure just adds a little more life to the bait I work it like a jerk bait but not as hard, look it up man very probable that the bass are just very skidish with how your presentation it. I don't know why but it seems like ponds(depending on the size) are the some of the hardest places to get those bass to hit em. Quote

Depth I'm unsure of but they prefer hitting topwater over most other lures. Quote
