Core 100mg vs Daiwa sv105

I have been thinking on selling a Core 100mg an buying a Daiwa sv105. Not sure if this is a good idea or not. I haven't fished the 105 but for some reason I am drawn to it.

 

Does anyone have or had both reels and could enlighten me on a comparison?

Hmm... what is it that you want to use the reel for? Keep in mind with the Alphas SV 105 line capacity could be an issue. It is more of an 8-12# line kind of reel (mag finesse if you will). I use my Alphas SV 105 for 1/4 and 3/8 oz hardbaits like jerkbaits and poppers. The 100 is going to be better for baits 3/8 oz and up. Both are very light reels and great reels for that matter.

I'd try to keep the core and add an sv105. Those cores are getting harder to find and are still some of the best reels. I do love my sv105 and thinks it's well worth owning.

If I could pickup an SV, or a Core right now I'd not even come close to hesitating buying the core 101, or even 51.

I had planned on using the reel for 1/4 to 1/2 hardbaits like jerkbaits and topwaters. When I compared the specs on both reels, the line capacity appeared to be the same at 10/110, 12/90, 14/80.

 

I have two of the cores so was just thinking about swapping one....hmmm.

A tiny bit better with the Core but yea not by much. Either reel should be fine with those applications. I really like my Alphas SV for topwater and jerkbaits. You may want to buy an Alphas SV and fish it side by side to your Core and see which one you prefer. Should you sell your Core and not like the Alphas you will have to find another Core to purchase and since they are discontinued you may have to wait a bit for one to surface in the kind of condition you want. If you like the Alphas SV and still want to sell the Core to recoup some money by all means go for it. I am to the point now where if I think I might be replacing a reel and wanting something newer/different... I always use the new reel first to see if I am going to like it and then sell the reel it is replacing.

I don't have core but have chronarch 50e and curado 70. I like SV 105 for lite lure 1/4 or less and mostly when pitching/skipping. I like curado 70 for long cast 3/8 up (to me 70 cast The furthest. I use 50e for everything bomb cast, pitching skipping 1 oz lure (WP110) you name it. The 50e might not get the most distance nor the easiest to skip but it will do anything you ask for. I like the size of  sv105 which is as comfort as my 50e.

The Core is Great bang for the buck higher end reel.

I have 2 Core 51Mg7s that I hardly use since adding an SV105 to the lineup.  I have one listed for sale in the Flea Market, but am constantly waffling about keeping it.  They really are fantastic reels.  I agree with the above commenter who recommended getting the 105 and trying it side-by-side with your Core before you decide to sell.

Great advice guys. I really appreciate it. I think the best option is to save up and buy a 105 and compare them as was suggested. Thanks again.

Thanks for the sizing info. That puts it into perspective a bit better for me. I have 2 Curado 50e's and a core 50Mg7 and I love the size profile. I always wanted to try a Daiwa and the 105 is the one I seem to be drawn towards,
