Have to replace my bow mounted HDS 9 touch gen 2 due to damage to the unit.

Should I replace with another gen 2 or a newer gen 3?

Gen 2 considerably less $$$$.

Pros/cons?

I have two Gen 2's and wouldn't replace them now. not a big enough difference for the extra cost although some will disagree.

I agree with you.

i would not be replacing this unit either if not for the damage.

But since I am replacing it.....trying to determine if I should replace with lower priced gen 2 or a newer gen 3.

i could buy 2 HDS 9 touch Gen2 2 for $1999.99 from Cabelas (and have  2 under warranty) and sell my other good HDS 9 touch Gen2 or buy a gen3 for $1229.99 to go with my good gen2.

Can your unit be repaired by Lowrance?

Upgrades to existing models like gen 2 to gen 3 are usually better clarity in target separation in cover or structure, so that depends on   your detail preference.

Give the Lawrance tech a call, not sure what they will or will not repair today. I don't have a current contact, if you need a name should be able to get a point of contact.

Gen 2 is EOL and no more updates. Gen 3 should still be getting updates for a while. I have 1 HDS-9 Gen 2 Touch and 2 HDS-9 Gen 3 Touches. I don't notice much difference in daily use. Gen 3 is a little faster. Some like the screen better on the Gen 3. Built in WiFi on the Gen 3 is nice. Navionics Sonar Charts Live on the Gen 3 is awesome. I got my Gen 3's for under $1K each. Look for sales. With the Carbons out, there should be more.
