npl_texas Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I'm in between these reels for my next purchase. I've done all of the research on the basics of both but wanted to see if anyone has experience with these reels. They are both fairly new so there aren't a ton of reviews online. Overall they are both very positive. Anybody? Quote
Jon G Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 If you are considering buying a Chronarch MGL why not get the Metanium MGL from a JDM site like digitaka or JLS they have them for about $295 ($15 more than the Chronarch) and is a much better reel. 1 Quote

I'm not familiar with the JDM stuff. Why is it so much cheaper than retail here ($419)? That is very intriguing. Quote
Jon G Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 The value of the Yen is less than the dollar. There is a bunch of other factors that makes it so but I'm not 100% sure why but as long as I can buy my reels for a cheaper price I'm a happy camper. The only difference between the JDM Metanium and the U.S. Metanium is the spool size. The JDM spool is a shallow spool while the U.S. version is a 150. However, you can buy a 150 size spool for the JDM Metanium which is what I did. I use the shallow spool with braid and the deeper spool for 16-20lb Fluoro. Quote

Great prices on everything. Really cool. Thank you. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Owned a Zillion for about a month now and love it, took sometime to adjust as with any reel. Since then its effortless in both casting and cranking, this is my go to spinnerbait, chatterbait, and swimbait reel. Honestly, I think you'd be hard pressed to go wrong either way and you won't be disappointed. 2 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 If you search this website for Chronarch MGL, you'll see that I've been a big fan of this reel ever since it was released. I've now got 4 of them and I love this reel. Probably the best all around performing reel I've ever owned. 4 Quote

Bass fishing is best Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Never used the Zillion but have heard fine things about it, I'd imagine it's on par quality and performance wise with the Chronarch. The Chronarch MGL is probably the finest reel I've fished with, hands down. It pitches so effortlessly it has put to shame any other reel in my past. It casts weightless senkos easily and bombs anything heavier. It's smooth as silk all around. I've been fishing for 30 years and have been upgrading my equipment as of late. My plans were to grab one of Shimano's flagship reels at the end of this year (Metanium, or Antares) but the Chronarch is the end of the line for me after fishing it several dozen times. I never buy more than 1 of any piece of the same equipment, but am going to grab another Chronarch after this season. All that said I will again remind you I've read the same compliments of the Zillion. My best advice to you would be too hold one on a rod and see which one feels better in your hand...then buy the Chronarch. 1 Quote

From here what it really comes down to is which one you think looks cooler 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 24, 2017 Global Moderator Posted June 24, 2017 I recently bought the 9.1 Zillion and have really been happy with it so far. It was the only reel I used to get the W in the Thursday night tournament this week. 1 Quote
