Super User A-Jay Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 Interesting. Seems like a perfect way to cripple a roster. #flacco Best of luck to them. A-Jay 2 Quote
Hurricane Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 @AlbertBreer Albert Breer Retweeted OAKLAND RAIDERS Carr says he wanted the deal to be structured so his teammates (Mack, Cooper, etc., etc.) would be around long-term, too. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted June 23, 2017 Global Moderator Posted June 23, 2017 The only people that should be paid that kind of money are: 1: Military personnel 2: scientists looking for a cure to cancer, diabetes, and other deadly diseases 3: first responder (police, fire, EMS) I may have missed 1 or 2 but if you aren't going into a fire, firefight/war zone, laying your life on the line or coming up with a cure to a deadly disease you shouldn't be making that kind of money. Especially since 80% or more will be broke in 10 years or less. Just my 2 pennies on that. Quote

If the common folk didn't buy jerseys , programming , tickets and other merchandise then there wouldn't be that much money for the players.. we must blame ourselves. 2 Quote

So much more value should be put on the folks we count on to teach the future of this country. Good for the Raiders. Would be great if Mahommes turns into something for the Chiefs and they get to battle it out for many years to come. 2 Quote

After all, go without food, and you'll die. Go without an education and you'll last longer. Pay should be on merit, with several means of measuring a job's worth. Such as, how many people could do the job successfully. The responsibility a job entails. Nurses weren't mentioned yet, but I'll throw that in since I'm married to a nurse. Until she retired, she carried a one million dollar malpractice insurance policy. She never needed it, but the prospect was always looming as a possibility. How many teachers, or firemen, or policemen do we have in this country. How many professional NFL quarterbacks are there? There can be little argument that many professions/jobs are more valuable to society than any professional athlete. But a team owner has the capacity to pay these multi million dollar salaries. Society (taxpayers) does not have the means to match the pay of athletes or celebrities. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 25, 2017 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2017 Well, there are a lot of VERY worthy careers that people pursue through education and hard work. These requirements pertain to sports, but there is also a God given skill requirement. No matter how much you might put into it, you are NOT going to be an NFL quarterback. There are 32 teams in the league and only about half have a legitimate "NFL quality" guy taking snaps. Round up to 20 and you have 20/ 7,000,000,000 that fit the bill. 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted June 25, 2017 Super User Posted June 25, 2017 IMHO, $750 million in "free" money for the Raider to leave Oakland again and relocate in Las Vegas kinda makes this contract easier to do. And congratulations to Derrick Carr and his family... Quote

Surfcaster Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 The NFL's annual revenue is expected to be $14 Billion this year. The commissioner made $34 Million last year and apparently is worth it bringing in $14 Billion a year for the company. So I guess $25 million a year for a quarterback is about right. Quote
craww Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 It'll be interesting to see how things shake out going forward as the coming bubble of TV money bursts. Not sure how long it'll take but its going to happen..Reportedly TV revenue and viewership was down a bit last year. There was talk that ESPN is now losing money on the MNF deal all things considered. With inflation Im sure salaries will keep going up but something is going to have to give at somepoint. I'd much rather do away with cable companies all together personally and go ala carte for 2-3 channels. 1 Quote
