Super User Further North Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 Intermittent weirdness... Brand new install, Helix 10 DI G2N at the bow using US2 transducer on a 2016 Ulterra, Helix 12 Mega G2N at the console, transducer at the back of the boat. I have a hub tucked under my starboard console, and a 360° at the back of the boat. Connections are tight, wire are in great condition. Sometimes I can see the SI on the Helix 10, sometimes I can't. The units are communicating through the hub as I have temperature reading from each unit displaying on both units (Temp 1 on the Helix 12 is from the transom transducer, Temp 2 is from the US2 at the bow...for the Helix 10, Temp 1 is the US2, Temp 2 is the transom transducer) Both units have no problem finding the Ulterra and the 360°. It's not that big a deal as I seldom use SI while I am at the front...but it's just weird and bugging me... Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 I have a very similar set up and my Helix 10 SI at the bow just started doing the same thing ? May have been doing for a while but I wouldn't have know as I use the 360 at the bow and never the SI anymore. Noticed it last trip out scrolling thought the views. Otherwise the whole set up is operating correctly, as far as I can tell anyway. I bet @Wayne P. knows exactly what the deal is . . . A-Jay Quote

That's my hope...But being a cynical guy at heart, I've always looked at "hope" as a bad plan... I posted the same question on the walleye forum as well. So far, all I've got is people who have the same issue. probably need to try an HB forum... 1 Quote

Perhaps HB will put out an 'update to solve this. Because my units are 'in dash mounted', removal & shipping for repair will be a bit laborious. A-Jay Quote

The fact that they are communicating at times makes it feel like an update-solvable problem...and HB is good about that. A thought I had this AM was that maybe the sequence they get turned on in has an impact? 1 Quote

A thought I had this AM was that maybe the sequence they get turned on in has an impact? Perhaps - I always fire up the console first - let it lock in and then light up the bow unit. Interesting thought though - perhaps I'll stand on one leg - dance a little jig, chant an old native song first . . That might do it. A-Jay Quote

You have to hold tin foil or a Mylar lined snack food bag in both hands while you do it. I find that the old "YMCA" dance pretty well covers all the possible arm locations pretty well. Three times through while rotating 360° should do the trick 44 minutes ago, A-Jay said: Perhaps - I always fire up the console first - let it lock in and then light up the bow unit. ...that's what I do most of the time. 1 Quote

Super User Further North Posted June 28, 2017 Author Super User Posted June 28, 2017 More info: I can see DI from the MEGA transducer on the bow unit all the time. I often run the 2D/DI split screen, just for fun...it's kind of interesting seeing what the 2D is showing me on an 18 ft. delay. Quote
Super User Further North Posted June 30, 2017 Author Super User Posted June 30, 2017 Man...this is a bummer...posted here, Walleye Message Central, the Humminbird Facebook forum...nothing. HB is usually pretty good about responding to this stuff, weird that they are not on this. Quote

Super User MickD Posted June 30, 2017 Super User Posted June 30, 2017 I'm far from expert, but my Helix 9 was acting up on SI, giving only partial views in some combo views, and the solution was to update to latest software. Then it was 4.0. (Or was it 1.40?) Check yours, then go to the Humminbird site for instructions on update. BE 100% SURE YOUR UNIT IS RESET TO DEFAULT SETTINGS BEFORE UPDATING. IF NOT YOU MAY HAVE TO SEND IT IN FOR THEM TO FIX. Quote
Super User Further North Posted June 30, 2017 Author Super User Posted June 30, 2017 Both units are running the most recent software...unless they've release a new update since my original post on this topic. I'm sort anal about keeping things updated; I check about once a month. The "requirement" to re-set to default before updating is an old one. The updates now do it for you...Not having 100% faith in programmers...I still do the manual reset though. Belt and suspenders... Quote
Super User Further North Posted July 21, 2017 Author Super User Posted July 21, 2017 OK...after a few weeks of deafening silence from HB on three forums, and a nudge from Wayne over on "another bass forum" I installed the just-released (7/5/2017) software version 1.460 on both the Helix 10 and the Helix 12...so far. we're 3 for 3: Started up the whole system 3 times, have been able to see SI on the Helix 10 DI every time. Will do the Basemap install tomorrow night. ...still disappointed in HB. They are usually more responsive than this. 1 Quote

I read all over the place how exceptional their customer service is. I saw you on "the other forum" your referring to and I was surprised at the lack of response. I've seen day one questions asked and was flooded with answers. The whole situation is just weird. Quote

What you say has been exactly my experience and to say I am both puzzled and disappointed by the lack of response is an understatement. A quick response, even, "We don't know, we'll check it out." would have put it to bed...now this wiĺl follow them around for years...and they've got a formerly passionate supporter scratching his head. Bad business choice. I hope nothing has changed at HB. I should follow up to find out. 1 Quote

Super User Further North Posted July 22, 2017 Author Super User Posted July 22, 2017 I'm not anywhere near writing them off - as you say, great products, and a great company. I remain a fan and an advocate... ...I'm just puzzled about the odd way they handled this...or more accurately, the way they didn't handle it. Quote
